I have just run up 85 k on a set of BFGoodrich Allterrain T/A 16 inch on split rims on HJ60 Landcruiser. I would like to replace them but I understand that the T/A are no longer available and have been replaced with Allterrain T/A KO and they are not suitable for split rims - dangerous as they may blow off the rim. Any comments please?

Is this a problem with the bead profile?
i.e. the tyres only being available in JJ or J?
Some one may be able to confirm, but do split rims run a different bead profile?

Your car will feel a lot better if you change to nomal 16X7 rims like ROH Trak11 or speedy and fit 235/85/16 KO's or equivalent.
This is because of lower unsprung weight , and better track width.
Also and easier tyre changing - with right tools.
Is what my brother did on his for his touring tyres.

They come in three colours white silver black, actually I probably got a set to unload(
melbourne) , as I just brought another set (silver) - got 3 sets and family not into white.
Hopeless - fashion concious with a 4wd - what's the world coming to.
If you get concerned about last mm as I do its worth knowing that within a given size like 235/85 the tyres you buy can have up to 1.5 cm more tread width.
I got widest after study (Toyo Opats ) , this reduces tyre squirm and haven't quite killed them on the patrol after 80,000 and some big trips. (glad its not a wet winter here though).
Opats are a bit dearer , but can also buy summito's which mate did recently at around $160 each I think, far below BFG, all 10ply

Had a similar problem with a Hi-Lux on splits. The extra rubber of
the ridge just above the bead
seat apparently can prevent the locking ring of the split rim from seating properly.
Bob Jane refused to fit them to the vehicle on this basis.
