G'day Dave
Driving along the beach to rainbow is not a problem as long as you're aware of the tide, especially when going around the rocks. Only attempt it at low tide or just before on a falling tide, along the rest of the beach the sand is hard and firm at low tide, you'll encounter soft sand getting on and off the beach but its generally not a problem. Just make sure you travel on the falling tide. I was on the beach fishing at the weekend and like most weekends, it seemed like there were more cars on the beach than the Bruce highway, it does get very busy.

Jon: If I come down the beach from Rainbow can I then get into "Harry's Hut"?

Hi

I did the trip last weekend. But did not go around the rocks as the brother in law told me to avoid as the sand had dropped about a foot mid last week. Ended up going down to Freshwater and on to the beach. I have always found freshwater easy but there was one section at a top of the hill which was extremely soft at the moment and it did catch a few out but if you go up in high range and keep momentum up you will be right. Rest of the trip was a breeze except for the nut who tried to get on to the beach in 2wd. Also note the Cooloola Way has just reopened after they replaced the bridge but Harry's Hut road is closed. They state there is heavy machinery down there but we did not see any (must be in the camping area). Also the Freshwater pinic ground is open. If you get a chance when you get on the beach turn right and head up to the Cherry Venture shipwreck and if you go on a little further and go off the beach you will see the inland side.

(P.S. Does anyone know what the rig is just off shore for?

Have a good time!

Dave

Sorry Mate,

If you go the Freshwater way turn left after you get on the beach not right as I had written previously.

Cheers
