My patrols clutch is due for a freshen up and I am trying to decide wether to replace with A: O.E.M. B: Safari Heavy Duty kit to suit the original flywheel, or C: Safari Heavy Duty kit with flywheel (Traditional flywheel conversion kit). Any ones input that has tried these kits I would appreciate their input,

Clear as mud, Joe

I replaced the clutch in my ZD30 and had the flywheel machined, about 1 year later the fly wheel cracked and needed replacing, luckily it was warrannty, otherwise $2500.

clutch was $1500.

i'd go the standard clutch conversion and get rid of the ripoff dual mesh one.

Thankyou Steve, you read my mind! .......How many km did you do before the original flywheel croaked in front of the replacement clutch and was the pressure plate a standard one?

G'day Joe

I first replaced the clutch in my ZD30 '01 model at 120,000klms with the Daikin Safari HD unit, at that point the factory flywheel was deemed OK and went straight back in.

When they engine failed at 244,000 and taking advantage of the cost saving in labour we decided to replace the clutch again with the same Safari HD clutch kit......but............when the donk came out we discovered the flywheel this time was completely buggered with massive amounts of play between the two sections.

We replaced it with the genuine nissan dual mass flywheel at a cost of around $2500 plus I put the same safari HD clutch kit in again.

I didn't realise there were other flywheel options at that time.

Regards
Brad

By Replacing the Flywheel with a solid one could this cause any warranty issues down the line re gearbox etc plus would it be better on the clutch life.

I have replaced the dual mass flywheel with the Daiken solid state flywheel and clutch kit in my workshop. No problems from that day on. We have seen flywheels go as low as 60 000 km. At this stage Nissan usually rectify under warranty. Once we have fitted the solid flywheel we have found a much better pedal feel and you don't appear to get that dragging feeling when taking off.
You can check our site at

May be of some help.

BTW we have an EGR blanking kit that we are fitting to the ZD30 engines as well.
