Yes, couple of weeks ago. You shouldn't have any dramas, although its
well known for doing tyres. There were some roadworks on the Qld side. Can recommend
camping at Tobermary, although its still a long drive to
Alice Springs.

Fuel is availiable at
Boulia, Tobermary, Jervois and Gemtree.
Late Sept should be ok (warmish?) but if it rains you could be sitting around for a few days until the track dries out.
Take the time to enjoy the scenery, don't rush it and take care with your tyre pressures.

Hi, I went over it a few weeks ago also. Qld side is quite crappy. Graders are
working along parts of the NT side. No great drama's. Topped up fuel at Jervois
$181.0 per ltr (diesel). We crossed
Boulia - Alice in one hit - 9hrs.
Have Cooper A/T tyres with 70thou K's - held together beautifully.
Cheers
Leigh

Thanks leigh. looking foward to going. You ARE getting a good run out of your coopers . I just put a set of goodyear wrangler at/rs on my ute seem to be ok.for every good report you get on tyres you get the same number of bad ones what pressures did you run.

Yep just travelled it a few weeks ago. As they all said it is a bit rough on the QLD end in
places. Do dodge the bulldust holes, there were two roll-overs due to bulldust last month. Stop and check out the glass-sharp rocks on QLD side of Tobermorrey. You can't miss it. If it looks white it is sharp. Will do tyres really quickly. Run the right pressures and keep the speed low on that stuff.

Your right, there's always some debate regarding tyres. Horses for courses I say
and its probably due to 2nd hand misinformation in my opinion.
What works, works and if your happy with the product then stick with it.
I like the coopers and choose the heavier load rating which puts it into the light
truck category - I've never had misfortune of a blow out or puncture. I like their quietness on road (keeps mother happy) and stopping ablity in wet.
You asked about pressures (David made mention too)
I drop about 10psi (if I remember to do it) on gravel, but dont believe in lowering
pressure too much as higher pressures will help reduce any sidewall damage.
(different storey driving on sand)
I've had the coopers on my L/cruiser 100series from the day it was new in 2003.
David is right about that white stoney stuff. My travel companion got a puncture as
we turned into Jervois. Tiny little stone caught between tread blocks was pushed
through outter carcass by constant pounding.
Enjoy your trip

Agree with everyone on tyres and pressure - never too hard !!!!!!!!
Came across a roll over a few weeks ago just west of
Boulia. Straight road - driver hit a patch of bully in fading light and over he went. Quite sobering.
Have fun.
