Hello All

Does anyone have any soot hand experience of knowledge of diesel / LPG dual fuel installations.

I have arranged to have LPG installed to my ZD30 Patrol, 3litre TDI, automatic.

Theinstallation will result in about 30 litres of LPG injected into 100 litres of diesel giving an increase in HP and torque and hopefully slightly better overall kilometres per litre of fuel.

The exhaust emissions and temperature should be lower and the engine should run cleaner and more smoothly with less soot deposited into the engine lubrication oil.

Any comments and advice appreciated.

Regards

Just booked my 4.2 Patrol in and with the $2,000 Government rebate it will cost me $1,850. Still cannot get it done before Jan/Feb 2007 with the almighty rush now the rebate has been approved.

The web address of Diesel/Gas Australia is attached and I am having it done in Adelaide.

I am assured the rebate does indeed apply to diesels provided all the appropriate conditions are met. The main one being that the vehicle is strictly for private use. Contact the appropriate people on the web address for full details.

Hi Rusty,

I have been researching this closely for about 9 months and am yet to see anyone say anything negative about the conversions from those that have had the LPG system fitted.
So I have bitten the bullet and booked mine in also. They are still finalising the quote as I am looking into fitting a very small diameter gas tank each side running lengthways bside the chassis rail and side steps. Going this way I can keep the 145L of diesel tanks as standard and add the 50L of usable gas from the 2 gas tanks. Should give me a decent range then.

Can I ask who you have booked yours in with for the conversion? I am in Bundaberg Qld.

This interesting as I have been trying to find out if the rebate applies to diesels. I have emailed the gov dept twice and only received an automated answer which refers me back to the web site and unless I have missed it it only refers to petrol vehicles. I presume from above it also applies to diesels?!MPG:4!!MPG:4!

Hi Everyone

Thanks for your responses

I am getting the installation carried out in Penrith NSW by agents of Diesel/Gas Australia.

The cost estimate is $3,600 + GST + allow approx. $150 additional for exhaust modifications.

I have not had any official information about the Government Rebate of $2,000. There is a web site that has all the information, www. ausindustry.gov.au. I cannot open today. Another option is the phone hotline 13 28 46

I won't proceed if Mr Howard doesn't come good with $2,000 for diesel vehicles. And like everything else to do with Howard and his mates;
1. CHECK THE FINE PRINT
2. THE DEVIL'S IN THE DETAIL

There is very little Australian information, however I did a web search through Ask Jeeves and found more information about diesel LPG dual fuel from the UK. It was all good and confirmed the Australian information regarding more power and torque, cleaner and smoother running and lower exhaust emissions and temperature.

Once again thanks for your comments.
Regards
Phil

Hi Everyone

I now have email confirmation from Senator Ian Macfarlane's office that the $2,000 grant applies to diesel / LPG conversion for privately owned and operated cars, including my Patrol Station Wagon.

Phil
