Evening all,

Insatalled GME 4400 today on my 4runnver V6 and cant decide where to mount the microphone clip/holder. It has 2 screws that hold it in place.

All working nicely.

I am Northern metro Melb and heard a truckie talking to another truckie and stating that he is in Montague st getting onto the Westgate freeway.
That would have to be `4kms as a minimum as the crow flies.

A single loop around the stubby lever and drop the mike into the passenger foot well. No drilling required ;-).

Gee, you ask a simple question and you get some real dozy answers. Get a life guys, why belittle someone who has a genuine enquiry?

A friend of mine has used one of those small fishing reel type devices that you put on your belt and attach security swipe cards or keys to, the device automatically "reels in" any slack in the line. My friend has this device hooked up near the rear vision mirror and attached to the mike, when he pulls the mike down it unwinds easily and when released rewinds the mike up to the rearvision mirror. I will be fitting one myself as I see it as a good way of seperating my two mikes.

Was a genuine question I know i can place it around, was just interested where others had mounted their mic.

I have mine at a spot near to the top of the dash Kata, I have used double sided tape, so no holes and the GME clip has enough flat surface to achieve it. Best if it can be seen with peripheral vision to be able to grab it, rather than feel for it.

I made some brackets to hang of my GPS mount, it takes care of two microphones. It's sort of blocks easy access to the heater controls, but I use the microphones a lot more that I twiddle the heater control knobs.
Check out some of my pics here :-

The little stainless steel hook you can see holds the microphone for my IC-2800H, I made another that hold the mic for my IC-400PRO. One day I'll update the pics.

This takes care of two of my microphones, now I only have two more to find homes for!

I thought that was a pretty neat job... then I noticed the song name on the stereo- you should blank that out before you lose all credit.

Yeah, I know, pretty sad isn't it? I wasn't listening to it at the time, the volume was all the way down, honest!!.
One of my wifes compilation MiniDisc's was in the stereo at the time. I didn't realise until I had added the images to the album software that it was on the display at the same time I was shooting the photos.

Firstly I agree with Kiwi Kia.
Now, to the problem, you obviously asked the question because you're hesitant in drilling holes in your dash. What I did in the GU is find a panel around the sterio that was easily removable, go to the wreckers and get the said panel, remove and store yours, then drill as many holes into the wreckers one as you wish, when you go to sell the car simply swap panels.

Have a small magnet on the dash with double sided tape, glued a small washer on the rear of the microphone, works a treat

Stevesub, I don't know how your mike may fair on corrugated roads a few days out, perhaps you have tried the magnet that way?

Works fine in any conditions on any roads. Been there done that as the sticker on our window says - it also says "How do you get back" which is very appropriate for us

You've had number of do-able solutions.

For what it is worth, and depending on where you have the radio, I put my hook on the back of the centre console. Just reach down from either front seat and take it off the hook when we need it.

Bit of a nuisance as the grandkids tend to knock the mike off its hook, but does no harm.

IF you have a dummy dash switch in a convenient spot, you can screw the clip holder to the face of the dummy switch. When you want to trade the car, just get a new dummy switch to pop in there - that's been my preferred option.

Kata,

I have a 'clip-on' attachment that clicks (or clips) on to the vents - it covers about half on a 100s but it is designed to hold PDAs, phones etc... I just drilled a hole and screwed the mic holder on - then clipped it on. Works well, looks good and never failed.

I think I found the link on EO.

Ahh... the forum come through. Great lot of suggestions guys. I like a couple that I have not seen or heard of also. In the newer vehicles it is becomming more & more difficult to preserve the interior and still mount various essentials and toys. This forum is a great place for people to pass on their ideas and long may it continue.

For no-holes mounting, you can attach fairly big brackets using double-sided tape - but use the black exterior grade stuff.

If you've used Armorall or similar on your dash it won't stick - unless you clean the area with Jif Kitchen cleaner.

Provided ur not a smoker, I used the existing holes which attach the ash tray surround to the underside of the dash, you just need to make up a basic L bracket with holes that line up with the exisitng ones, easy.

Kata I bought avter market plastic mounts and double side taped then to the GU dash on a flat spot, one for the UHF and one for the 27meg, (which is now empty:( ). works great for me although I do like Spikes idea, I wonder if his GF can come along on my trips.
