Have recently been shopping around for new Navara prices and a few accessories/options. I reckon we get a pretty rough deal here in Australia.

Cost of 17" alloys - $590 per rim (rubber extra) No change over from the standard 16" alloys, just an additional cost for a completely new set, eventhough if you chose them as an option you would at the time of taking delivery only have 1 set of wheels/tyres but you would have paid for 2.

Fog lights (2) - small in front bumper - $500 plus to S&F. Must be gold.

Door rubber protective mouldings - $280 per door (must also be gold)

I wrote to Nissan Australia regarding what I feel are outrageous prices for these items and to their credit they have contacted me by phone and said they would
ensure that I receive them at a good price.
I no longer want them if that is what it takes. They should be at a fair price in the first place.

Also today checked out the USA Nissan website and sussed out some of the options and accessories that they have available. Some that we don't get are:-

Rear Diff Lock
Oil pressure & Battery charging gauges in dash
Tyre pressure monitoring systems
Camping equipment (Tent) for rear tray
Heated seating
Lockable and sliding tool boxes
Rear vision mirror incorporating compass heading and outside temp. display
Off road Bilstein shocks options
380w Rockford Fosgate 10spkr subwoofer stereo option.
several different options in BFG off road rubber

Like I said this is just some of the items we don't get. I thought all of the above would have been of great interest to potential ozzie buyers. I would have been.

Base price for the Navara (Frontier in USA) 2.5TD 6sp = $15,900. Australian equivalent $40,000 plus.

I know it's all to do with dollars but they really do see us as small fry.
Still I can only imagine how expensive the car would be if we could have these options but they are certainly things that we are forced to chase up through aftermarket sources if we want them.

What's a man to do.

Hi GU,
Beware of genuine Nissan accessories. I got the hard cover on my Navara and was garrenteed that it was water proof by both the Nissan Bochure and the sales team. The car has been back 18 times with 6 covers being fitted and still it leaks like a siv.

The dealers will still tell you that they are water proof even though QLd Fiar Trading has advised them to stop selling them as water proof/dry storeage areas. Many after market options are available for Navaras now with much better Quality than those offered buy Nissan.

Don't worry mate it isn't just Nissan that supply Australia with what would probably be considered a base model in Europe and the good ol US of A. All brands are guilty of it. And don't get me started on the cars that are manufactured in Australia and exported to overseas markets. They have a bit more in them than the cars that are sold locally.

Hello D40Ross. Would it be safe to assume that you are a D40 owner ?

What model, engine, how long, story to date, if you don't mind me asking ?

Are you happy with it ? Any regrets or recommendations ?

We are in the throws of purchasing a base RX model (diesel manual) and will do so once we have sold our existing vehicle.

GU.

It's a 2006 2.5 Diesel and it's only done about 5000 Ks so far. I have had it about 4 weeks. It has a Challenger canopy which was way cheaper than the Nissan canopy.
A Dealer fitted Steel Roobar and a couple of IPF Spotlights from ARB. It does not have the ground clearance of my previous Navara (2004 model) but it is much bigger and seems to have plenty of grunt. Mine is an auto (first I have ever owned) and I think the manuals are a lot livelier but maybe Im getting old because the Auto is growing on me. My mate has one to and tows around a 19 ft Nesscraft Magnum with no problems. So far I like it.

Gooday,
You are right about the pricing, but that's where they hope to make lots of their profit. I have a new (6 weeks) old Jeep Commander CRD Ltd, $708-00 for the tow hitch, US $108-00, Roof rack X-bars, qouted $850-00, US$425, & they come with the vehicle in the US as does the tow hitch & wiring etc, & so on it goes, about the only accessory I could get was the tow hitch. Going to New York next month to visit our Daughter so will have a scout around while there. Can't even fit Spot lights as they interfere with front parking sensors, would very much like a Bull Bar but they all say not volume, so no make one. Grrrrrrrrrr!!.
Cheers,
Boroma 604.

Regards Boroma 604.

It's bloody frustrating to say the least. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth and it's a big negative that you will recall much sooner than the positives of the actual car.
Someone wrote in the forum recently that, yes, manufacturers spend millions on marketing and customer analysis and then soon after turn you off from going back to later on buying a second or third car. What are they thinking?

I really don't know if they know what we want or simply that they are unable to supply it competively priced.

My son is a member of an off-road motorcycling club and both he and his friends no longer buy their spares in Australia because they feel they are being ripped off big time. They import their spares directly from the States at a fraction of the local asking price.

You can't blame him.
Was a member of the Melbourne Jeep Owners Club for 5 years and found them terrific. Had many great memories in our XJ Cherokee.

Hope you find the Commander a good truck.
Cheers. GU

In some countries, GQ and GU come with center console as a heater/cooler as a factory option.

of course they see us as a tiny market, in reality, we are...
What does a man do?

Autobarn - to small gino spotties, for some reason called foglights $50-100
Any tire joint, alloys $200 tops each
door protective moulds, get something aftermarket from autobarn.
