It's a scientific fact - www.abc.net.au/science/k2/trek/s203318.htm
"Drivers slow down in fog, because they can't see as far - but according to the research of Robert J. Snowden, Nicola Stimpson and Roy A. Ruddle from the School of Physiology at the University of Wales Cardiff, they don't slow down enough. The problem lies in our brain."
"The more foggy it got, the more the volunteers underestimated their true speed. "
"when they were asked to drive at 48 kph, they drove at about 70 kph in the fog,"

Yes
well, if the authorities would stop saying things like "Thick Fog Caused 23 car pile up on the F3 or whatever and tell the truth, like "Idiot drivers travelling too fast in thick fog causes 23 car pile up etc"
Then charge each one of em with neg drive or manner dangerous, we might get a change of attitude. We all have speedos to check our speed.

Mike, I am sure if road authorities had it worked through properly a lot of roads would have variable speed limits. I remember years ago, travelling traffic on the
Geelong road with heavy rain spray at 125kph and the limit then should have been an effective 100 kph in that rain, loweredfrom 110kph. It would be good if some sanity prevailed at times, but it doesn't seem to, people seem to like living on the edge.

The Freeway to
Wollongong has fog detectors on it and a variable speed limit based on this.
The F3 has one section now where it is 90km/h when wet with variabkle signs.

Eminently sensible Mike, I wish in the upgrade for the
Geelong Road (Prince's Highway) South West of
Melbourne was like that. Speed cameras on four bridges regulating to 100 kph or less in the case of so many batches of vehicles, on a 125 kph capable road. Not that we have urges to speed with the fuel price.
