An Vic Amateur friend of mine worked the UK, very clearly, on 20m SSB voice with 50mW (1/20 of 1 watt) - however he does have a three beam phased antenna 195' (yep 60m!) high.

I am frequently surprised when bush and chatting to people on my Yaesu FT-857D on HF how turning the power down from the initial 100W to 10W or 20W makes very little difference to their ability to hear me - it's all in the antenna and a bit of wire in the trees will beat a vehicle mounted vertical every time :)

I'd suggest that you ask Willem as I believe he uses one on that network occasionally.

Yep I have a 6924. Have had one for years. Recently I bought another one and got a smart fella to build me a super duper 6924.

I have VKS, 2020, and 8 RFDS Channels through a whip antenna or wire into the trees.

It works OK but relies on skip sometimes. Range can be up to 1000km if you are lucky. Sometimes the range is short...lol. They need servicing annually or every two years.

I hardly use it as I feel no need to talk to anyone out there. It is purely as a back up to the Satphone.
