Hi All,
Looking at buying a new GXL V8 cruiser. Can anyone tell me how much servicing normally costs?
Thanks

Not a lot more than a normal vehicle. What I have found is that you can get a better service done away from the Toyota dealers at a better price. The major
services can cost from $600 to $800 depending on the brakes. The 150,000 Timing Belt service is a killer, that can cost considerably more. The reliability of the vehicle is excellent and so is the car if you don't care about fuel costs. I have used 2 Toyota dealers for service and they didn't do the little things like
check the wiper blades, battery fluid levels etc, however one of them was instrumental in getting Toyota to replace a Master Brake cylinder out of warranty. My last service for a 98 V8 GXV was done away from a Toyota dealer for less. It was picked up, delivered and cleaned in the cost, you can find some very good mechanic/service centres if you look around or are recommeded by someone.

Had a 97 GXL V8, was expensive to run and service even at 79c/L changed timing belt at 100,000 was expensive. Averaged 4-5kms/ litre. best I ever did was traded back in on turbo diesel, doesn't have the hop of a V8, but at 7-8.5kms/litre of fuel and no timimg belt to worry about makes cheap running.
Also can go into desert
places without having to worry about fire underneath from spinifix.
Happy motoring, EMU.

Hey Eric, just a quick question. If your landcruiser has no timing belt what makes the camshart turn? Maybe you should lift the bonnet and have a quick look. Is yours the model with a little plastic wheel and mice in the to turn the camshaft?

Hi Tim,
Thers' not much to do to them.
Oil and filter every 10,000 (normal driving)
at 40,000 they do the Tranni oil.
Grease front drive seals (think that's what they are called ?) every now and then.
90% of the mannual is for Diesel servicing

Tim,
I bought
mine, oddly enough, from a Ford dealer with close to 120,000 on the clock. Of course, it was soon due for it's big service and the man said "aw, you won't get much change out of $1000 - as long as there aren't any problems, that is". They'd checked out Toyota's charges. The car had a 3 year warranty but only covered $1000 per claim. They called me after a few days and asked if I'd like to book it in. I told em where to shove it at that price and took it round to my local bloke who charged just over $500. I'll save at least $750 per year on servicing, so even if the worst happens and I need to claim, I'm only gonna be $250(max) down. Anyway, I've had the car nearly two years, and, touch wood, haven't had a thing go wrong, so it was a good decision. It was a used car, and I was offered the option of having it rustproofed. After somebdy hit me from behind, my local smash repairer happened to mention that we'd need the rustproofing re-doing. So it already had it anyway, and these robbing bastards were asking me to take the "option" up. And just one other thing, despite the usual assurances that it had "been thru the workshop" there wasn't even a bloody air filter in there. Moral of story: get a local bloke who you can trust to do the servicing. That was a Ford delaer in the Newcastle/Cardiff area.....and don't get me started on Holden... even worse. swmbo no longer takes her's to the local dealer but takes it to the same place that I go. Saves big dollars and and lots of time chasing these idiots up for things they should've done but didn't. Give em the flick mate.
