just getting ready for a 2 week dawdle around Hay and Kyalite etc.

Was doing a check of the van and wondered how you check the adjustment on the coupling.

Can anyone help me.

I have tried google search but couldn't find what I need.

Bob

The reason I ask is when we first got the van, about 12 mths ago, I bought this locking device that inserted into the coupling, you then expanded it with an allen key and put the lock over the allen key hole and in theory it would slow a thief down.

The other day I put the device in the coupling and it would just fall out, like it wasn't sitting right up in the coupling .

So Thats what made me think something needed adjusting.

Bob ,you may if you can/able kneel or lay down & have a look see up inside the ball hole may be the locking thing that when you hitch up & grabs around the base of the ball it may not be the right way around or warn if that is at all possible.

I have one of those, and I have found I think it's in properly but it isn't and it falls out. Without anything in the coupling, poke your fingers in and feel the locking device that moves when you lift the lever (can't think of a suitable name!) to take the coupling off a tow ball. The lock needs to be pushed past this before you open it with the allen key.

Hi Boo Boo,

If you are tallking about the adjustment bolt and locking nut on top of the coupling, I stumbled across the topic from Caravan World magazine. From all accounts you hook up, loosen locking nut, screw in bolt, finger tight, as far as it will go, then tighten locking nut. I suppose you may need to loosen everything before hooking up so there is no force inside the coupling.

Cheers
