Hi there

have just indulged myself with a 2nd hand tinnie and 15HP mercury outboard - can't wait to get it on the water and frighten the fish.

Can anyone suggest / recommend a service centre for Mercury outboards in SE of Melbourne, specifically around Berwick?

Hi Gazza

I use AB outboards and they have just moved to greens road dandy. I have used them on this boat for the last 3 years and very happy with the service and attention given to the boat. Great advise and workmanship. I haven't been to the new premises yet, they were previously in Caufield.

cheers

Find yourself a good reliable mechanic, because with a black anchor you're going to need it.

I swear , i will never buy another Mercury again.
Bought a brand new 135 V6 a few years ago.
List of problems were.
Power trim and tilt failure while under warranty
Power trim and tilt failure fixed at my cost just outside of warranty
1 Stator repaired under warranty
1 Stator at my cost
Then to top it all off a major engine failure with less than 200hrs on the clock and just outside of warranty.
This 135 V6 was on a 17' bowrider, so you'd hardly say the engine was working hard and it was regularly serviced by the Mercury dealer.
Compression was down in number 6 cylinder from the 50hr service and Mercury wouldn't do a thing about it when it let go when it was outside of it's warranty.
I could have bought 2 outboards with what i spent on this one

The black anchor/white anchor (Evinrude/Johnson) debate is older than Ford/Holden.

I've only ever owned one black anchor and it was a dog. I'll put that down to it's previous owner as it was well worn when I got it.

A good mate of mine who treats his boat better than his kids, recently had a 3 year old, meticulously maintained Johhno let go (TF).

Our best experience was with a Yamaha. Fair Dinkhum, the most reliable thing of all time.

A 15HP doesnt have power trim/tilt. So dont get to concerned about black anchor comments

I have a Mariner 15HP ( same motor) and I downloaded the servive manual and did it mysself. Quite easy. If you want the manual let me knwo & I can email to you.
