Hi all,

We are looking at doing a trip to see the wild flowers ,would like some feed back from people who have done it and where did they camp ? Do you have to travel the back roads or can you see them just as well from the main roads ? We have a camper trailer so we prefer to camp out of towns. I have done a search through archives and am still looking for more info.

Col, we were over their last year and the wildflowers were everywhere.
One spot we particularly liked was near Corrigan. Opposite the dog cemetary, there is a wildflower drive and as we were staying in the caravan park the night before, a lady came around and gave us a brochure outlining the drive and pictures of the flowers so you could identify them. It was really well done. Have a look down the posts and there is one there about wildflowers and a couple of books were mentioned which helps to identify them.

Hi,
We live in the South West and agree that the wildflowers will probably be anywhere you go. The season is just starting now with the strange weather that we have been having.

Hi there Col we to are looking at going away and thought that we would like to go looking at some wild flowers. I found an article in weekends out of Perth by western 4wder about ningahn station near paynes find. I rang the station last week and they said that they had plenty of camp sites but because of the lack of rain out that way this year no wild flowers.

Just some info I have picked up not sure where else we might look yet

Mate, draw a triangle between Kalgoorlie, Geraldton and Mt. Magnet and then try any direction you want. Get a hold of the book "Free camping the the south west" and have fun.

Any where you go there will be wild flowers. They just change from each area. About now should be good with masses of flowers further north say Carnavan inland, mid September Perth area, end September early October Kojonup / Cranbrook then keep heading south west.
The long weekend there are a number of wildflower displays in the Great Southern (Kojonup) where you will see most of the flowers on display and get directions where to see them in the bush. In the Great Southern it is the variety that is spectacular. 260 varieties within 20 klm of Kojonup.

Don't know what the displays will be like this year with the season. Some plants seem to be flowering early but I would expect some to be late due to the late start. I have noticed a lot out now around Boyup Brook.
Basicly follow your nose but don't miss the Great Southern.
Watch out for the bees when you smell them.

The area around Lake King is a very popular wildflower area. Nice and quiet and out of the way too!

If you want a bit of good info from a botanist, about 4 years ago we dropped in to the Western Wildflower park near Eneabba. The bloke who owns it is a bit of a specialist on West Aus wildflowers and gives a talk on the evolution etc. Hope he is still there.

Well worth a stop over in his little caravan park.

Ditto above comments, I was not really a wildflower person however we stopped at this CP for one night a few years ago and it opened my eyes as to what is out there in the bush, I now view the bush in a different perspective and appreciate the wild flowers a whole lot more here in the West.
We plan to make a return visit soon.
