David, whilst on the "Trader" section, how long before ads marked "sold" stop flashing red and get removed?

All Ads other than display ads stay online for a period of 1 month and then get deleted. Thus if you list an item sell it 1 week later it will stay as sold for 3 more weeks.
It can change this is just how I did it at the time!

Thats ok for you but I loose the ability to make a little revenue if the person is in fact a business. I have chased this up and it appears that this person is not a business he just want to sell his boat.
