G'day Aaron
Despite being
well outside the extended warranty period Nissan made available to me a heavily discounted replacement ZD30 engine.
Normal Price range is from $10,500 - $11,500 for a new long motor depending on which nissan dealer you ask.
After applying some pressure through
melbourne they sold one to me for $4600 odd, add the labour, fluids etc, the total cost directly associated with the new engine was $6827.
Whilst I am grateful for their "good will" assistance, especially since I guess they could have told me to knick off, I like so many others I am sure, would be much happier if Nissan Australia publicly acknowledged the ZD30 problem and when these failures are due to melting/cracking pistons blowing holes in themselves that all owners are entitled to a replacement engine at zero cost.
Whilst my engine was out, we discovered the dual mass flywheel was buggered, that was about $2500 to replace, the fuel pump needed an overhaul and this cost $2800 then there were worn out engine mounts and the water pump had to be replaced also oh and the clutch whilst it was OK was replaced given the saving in labour since it was all out.
Whilst some of these extra''s don't apply to a warranty situation anyway the concept of having to part with this amount of cash to keep a 5 year old vehicle on the road just seems ridiculous to me.
Cheers
Brad
