there is a few variants and they go for 1,2, or 3 years. so the pricing will vary quite a bit.

The folks who look after my lease offer a similar "insurance", but they couldn't do it at that price.

this is a genuine nissan warranty the price they are offering for 1 year is $995.00 for 2 years its $1095.00 and for 3 years its $1295.00 all up to 150000 klms with full roadside assist.

I have the 3 ltr turbo model I never new there were any problems with them until I started reading this forum.

Hi Johnno,

I just took it out, so it had better be good! Given this history of Nissan moments, I thought it would be handy to have.

However, I have a novated lease and will be paying if off over the next 3 years so it added very little to my overall payments.

Given the stories you read about the 3LT hand grenade, if yours is a 3LT I'd grab it with both hands, quick ;-).

If it's a 4.2 I probably wouldn't pay that much.

Make sure you buy the Nissan genuine warranty as this is transferable if you sell. Good idea, I did that on mu GU3 Patrol and have bought a 6year 150K warranty on my new Patrol. It sounds by the dollars that it is the real deal. Cheap for the peace of mind it gives you. Having said that nothing really went wrong with mine (4.8 TI) because they are such a good car. I still bought warranty on the new one.

Good luck,

Grizzle

I've got a 4.2, and got the extended warranty. Paid for itself with two turbos and a gearbox. Had debated the idea earlier, but went with it. Glad I did.
With the 3.0, you'd be mad not to take out the warranty.

It sounds dear however I suppose if you can afford it and your paranoid about the engine dieing it would be piece of mind. What are the odds..??

Anyone got a stat on that..? sounds like the Nissan 3.0TD is really getting a rep..

Just be aware, that you HAVE to get it serviced at a Nissan Dealership! You can't take it to ULTRATUNE or the like! A lot of people have had their extended warrantly voided by this! It is not like your new car warranty, where you can virtually take it anywhere! You also still have to fit genuine Nissan parts, or again your extended warranty maybe void.

Just a thought!

NOT TRUE.
My truck has not seen a Nissan dealer since it's first service. EXCEPT for warranty issues, including a stripped 5th gear which was fixed by replacing the whole gearbox under warranty.

If you buy the genuine Nissan warranty you can service it where you like. Non genuine parts however would be an issue.

Service does not have to be done at a nissan dealer and for the extra dollars for extended warranty its still about 4grand cheaper than a TD42 and some 20grand cheaper than a Tojo for the same thing.
All parts must be replace with genuine nissan parts for ful warranty as is usual for most vehicles.
Don't worry about your 2003 model, the problem has been well and truly sorted out. Fails are now similar to other makes of 4WD.

Hi Johno

If your Patrol has a ZD30 Motor in it, you would be mad not to buy the extra warranty. My extra warranty paid for itself when the turbo had to be replaced at 149,000klms along with numerous other bits & pieces along the way.

Further more and again this only applies if it's a ZD30 and based on my own very recent personal experience of an engine failure at 244,000klms I be getting rid of it before the extended warranty runs out.

The out of pocket cost to get my 5yr old Patrol back on the road just last month was $13620 and this was with the "good will" offering from Nissan.

Cheers
Brad

yeah the ZD30 is the model no. of the 3ltr turbo patrol engine, the other is the TD42 which refers to the 4.2 litre engine.

G'day Aaron

Despite being well outside the extended warranty period Nissan made available to me a heavily discounted replacement ZD30 engine.

Normal Price range is from $10,500 - $11,500 for a new long motor depending on which nissan dealer you ask.

After applying some pressure through melbourne they sold one to me for $4600 odd, add the labour, fluids etc, the total cost directly associated with the new engine was $6827.

Whilst I am grateful for their "good will" assistance, especially since I guess they could have told me to knick off, I like so many others I am sure, would be much happier if Nissan Australia publicly acknowledged the ZD30 problem and when these failures are due to melting/cracking pistons blowing holes in themselves that all owners are entitled to a replacement engine at zero cost.

Whilst my engine was out, we discovered the dual mass flywheel was buggered, that was about $2500 to replace, the fuel pump needed an overhaul and this cost $2800 then there were worn out engine mounts and the water pump had to be replaced also oh and the clutch whilst it was OK was replaced given the saving in labour since it was all out.

Whilst some of these extra''s don't apply to a warranty situation anyway the concept of having to part with this amount of cash to keep a 5 year old vehicle on the road just seems ridiculous to me.

Cheers
Brad

Is the warranty like some other forms of insurance in that they will not cover 'pre existing conditions' .
If so then the 3 litre problems are pre existing and may not be covered .

I'm sorry, just joking but couldn't resist ;-))

Hi Johno

Took a bit of a different line , in that most new cars are designed to go a long way with near nothing needing to be done to them apart from simple fluids and adjustments.

Gee even the spark plugs on mine don't need changing till 100,000km

So with my patrol I did in all myself and it never went back to nissan from brand new for a service. And I'm a lousy mechanic.

I figured that cost saving was worth more than what is effectivly an insurance policy, and have folowed this line with 3 new cars this century.

A major fault is still fully covered , and I did work thru that.

Some of this thinking came from heavy involvement in warranty schemes which prove for many companies to be a most profitable form of income.

I have a 2002 Patrol and just found last week the head gasket has a hole between # 3 and #4. I am talking to Nissan at the moment to fix the problem out of "Goodwill" since the Patrol has only 64,000kms on the clock and the Vehicle showed no over heating at any time. The warranty expired in April 05.
