Presently have Bridgestone 693 AT on 31x10.5x15 on my vehicle, which are just about cactous. Have staked the sidewalls on a couple of occasions in paddocks & am now looking at putting on Goodyear Wrangler MTR or ATR. Has anyone used these in general every day use, their longlivity & in regard to the MTR's their quietness & handling in the wet. Also whats a fair price on the above.

G,day Shane,
Ive had the Goodyear Wrangler MTR's for the last 10 months or so, and cant fault them as yet, not as noisy on the road as I was expecting, more than happy with them offroad (used to have ATR's) and not too bad in the wet, rotate every 5000 km's, I paid $238.00 ea for the same size you want.

They tend to wear out the centres due to weak crossbelts. This apparently happens as the tyre rotates at speed, causing the centre to throw out. Changing tyre pressure makes little differance. Also am not happy with the wear rate. (they are the JAP 693's ).

Sounds like you'd be better with the Goodyear Silent Armour. Have a look at their website. I've run both the MTRs and now have 10,000k on teh Silent Armour - both good tyres and both are supposed to have the tough sidewall.

Phil,
Just out of interest, what was the main reason you switch to the Silent Armours?

Peter,
They were new, and I wanted to try them out.
I do a lot of desert trips - like a strong tyre, but don't really need a muddie.
My MTRs took a real beating over a couple of years and 45,000km of trips. They were very good.
Main downside with the MTR is that they cost you a bit in extra fuel (and range), and I found I needed to air them down further in sand.
Cheers
phil

Thanks for the reply, Phil. Most likely I'll be putting a set of Silent Armours on my 79 series next year.

Just do a search on MTR on this
forum, you'll have more than enough info as it has been brought up many many many times.
They are one of the only tyres that don't have people knocking them. They are a great tyre.
