G/Day All. Going to buy a new prado when new turbo arrives,my pocket tells me to buy a Gx, other than having skinny rims &tyres,no ABS,FBD,BA,all I take it to make a GXL a safer vehicle for the inexperianced, off road are they as capable as a GXL.Rather spend the money saved on bull bar 2nd battery ,
suspension upgrade.

With Gx Limited available now it may continue into the new diesel motor as
well. If you need pricing to help out once it is released let me know and I would be happy to keep your local dealer honest . codedmedia@gmail.com

I bought an 2003 GX instead of the GXL, to save a few dollars. The base model Prado has more features then the old Hilux, so the GX is still considered luxury by our standards.
We are still using the standard tyres 225 width, which are fine around town, but a point worth noting is the std GX tyres are about 748mm dia and the std GXL tyres are around 776mm dia (if i recall correctly).
I also think the GX speedo reads low by about 3 percent, which should read the correct speed if and when you upgrade the tyres to a 776mm approx dia. If your thinking of changing the
wheels I've have been quoted Cooper STT 245/70-17 tyres (which are about 776mm dia) at $295 each and King steel
wheels (8inch by 17inch) for $135 ish each
As you mentioned, while the std GX doen't have the ABS etc, as ours was an ex Gov purchase, it had the ABS and Cruise Control options fitted. So we think we got the best of both worlds, a base model with a few safety features.
Cheers Anthony
