I have just installed a dual battery system in my Trol. and I am about to run a wire to the rear of the vehicle ( about 6 meters of wire ) to run the frig etc. I need about 15 Amp min. at the rear of the vehicle. To elliminate voltage drop what size wire do people use and what would you recommend

Thanks

8 B&S at a minimum, or even better 6 B&S to a fuse/junction box.

Alloy c/t is right, sorry for my omission. 8mm squared (not auto cable).

I have purchased most of my electrical stuff from derek, who also provides advice on exploroz every now and then. He has good prices, super service via post and email, and is very professional. You can find the wire I used for my fridge at the following link:

Site Link

Or if that link does not work, search Aus ebay for

DUAL BATTERY & ANDERSON PLUG WIRE - 50AMP 2 CORE CABLE

And if that does not work, try derek's webpage
sidewinder dot com dot au

A readily available wire is W2302 (red) and W2304 (black) from Dick Smith @ $2.50/m You need about 6m of red and you can get away with 2 m of black for GU
as there is a major multiwire earth junction behind rear panel below when passenger seat belt attaches to side of car - little hard to get to there though.

You will find this wire to be a lot more pliable than most and really nice to work with and its 7.1mm cross sectional copper area is sufficent for 50 or so amps with almost no drop at your 15 amps.

Depending on your fridge size you may need 6mm2 as a minimum. The TW50 cable is good for most applications but we have a tinned solar cable that is 6mm2 and has been voltage / load tested to 8m.

Ideal for fridges.

If your run is only going to be 6meters and you want less than 3% voltage drop at 15 amps then you need to use at least 8 mmsq wire.

This would mean the outer diameter is 6.5 mm, the copper diameter is 4mm and it is marked as 8B&S.

Altronics have it on special for September if you buy 10 metres - $1.50 instead of $2.60 per metre.

You will get less voltage drop if you bond the earth wire to the bodywork at the rear.
