My son is looking at buying an Isuzu MU '91 model Turbo Diesel.
I know just about nothing about these vehicles. I've done a
forum search and found a little.
It has leaf springs on the back and IFS at front.
Can you get lift kits for it? Wouldn't expect more than 40 or 50mm, given the IFS.
Will a Frontera or any other bullbar fit it?
Any one know what to look for / possible problems with this vehicle to look out for?

Yeah pretty sure it's the older 3.1L TD out of the jack in those (good motor). Not sure about bullbars, leaf springs should be easily made for it though (if stock ones don't fit it). IFS generally allows for up to 2" lift without any dramas, after that bulljoint flips, spacers or body lift would be required for the front end.

The MU is the short wheel base of the Fronteria. The older ons had leaf spruing on the rear. The front end should be the samesame as the fronteria, in the later mod they are I know.

Norm.... talk to Mick G.... he owned one prior to the Disco, also Calmini do a lift for it, but being IFS they're pretty limited.
Why does he want a MU?? Not knocking them, just curious mate.

Hi Norm,
I just let Member Bruce and Anne know about this thread, they own a couple of MU's and have done a fair bit of modifying to them so hopefully they will be along soon to answer any questions.
Cheers, Trevor.

Thanks Trevor
Hi Norm, Yes we have an !993 MU 3.1TD has done 200k and is a great vehicle, we also have a 1996 MU Wizard its a four door, same motor. Would not swap them for the world.
But the info you need on these vehicles is available on www.clubisuzu.com which Iam a member, all the info you will ever need is there.
Now if he is in the
Brisbane area we have a club get to gether on Saturday 2nd September meeting at the Dayboro hotel 9am, so he would be able to ask as many questions as he likes and go for a drive in one.
Anything else send me a MM.
Cheers Bruce

Hi Bruce and Anne.
I don't spose you could tell me if the MU's have the same running gear as a Jackaroo? I a mainly interested in the gearbox and transfer case. I have a 96 3.1 TD Jack which has 220,000 on it and just replaced the turbo. Getting parts for the old girl is getting difficult here in WA now. Any info would be muchly appreciated.
Cheers

A.J. The running gear is the same as with the engine, so front ends should be the same. I dont know if there are any Isuzu Troopers in WA, but they are the same vehicle as your Jackaroo. There is quite a few importers of used Jap parts on the east coast where you can get engines, gear box.transfer cases ect, all ways find them advertising in the 4WD mags.
Cheers Bruce

I can honestly say that my 3.1 TD 1996 MU is a great little car.
My wife drives it at the moment and we get around 750 ks out of a
tank and couldnt ask for a torquier mini 4wd. Oh and I have a 2002 Jackaroo as
well.
Your son will love them but the later model the better.
Cheers
Geoff
