Rooftop series are good, they also have maps dedicated to the huts.

In the ExplorOz
shop we have all the rooftop maps shown, you can also view the exact coverage of each map. See RoofTop Maps.

The 1:25K topo maps have the best detail available but you'd require far too many to cover the whole area.( Best viewed on a computer) The 1:50K series are double width topo maps & cover the most popular areas only. For touring they are probably the best. The 1:100 series topo's aren't worth worrying about as they lack detail & miss alot of tracks. The Hema High Country map is not bad for planning but has a small scale & has plenty of glaring ommissions & mistakes. The old 1" to the mile maps where pretty good for their time but haven't been updated for a minimum of 15 years & they're mostly in black & white. Not sure they are still in print. The CFA fire map book is pretty good but currently out of print. They are particually handy being in a Melways style format & easy to handle in the car. The ESMAP book although not covering the main parts of the high country has excellent maps of the bush surrounding
Melbourne as far as
Woods Point & finally the Rooftops Maps. They overlap the main parts of the high country missing the NSW border area only. They have various scales available but their best features are they show historic points of interest,
camp sites, lookouts & have notes showing difficult tracks etc. Probably the best option for 4WD touring currently & available in the ExOz
shop.
Cheers Craig..........
