Does anyone know anything about these people. They offered $1200 worth of a holiday package or a TV, or cam-corder. Anyway you have to attend a time share meeting to get the free crap. I have not every been to such a meeting but am told that time share is not a very good system or at least the companies flogging it are dodgy. So I was wondering if anyone knows about all this stuff and if its worth it because if it was really just 1 meeting say 2 hrs for a $1200 device and no commitment then I could probably go ahead. Thanks.

Tis time share, the meeting lasts about 2 hours and then the pressure begins.

I had 2 people blocking the door when I tried to leave after saying NO for 1 hour.

Told them to step aside or I would smash them and after much raising of voice and making a scene they finally let me out.

Not worth it in my opinion. If ya want the gear so bad, buy it your self.

Exactly my experience. They want you to sign there and then on deals priced from $15,000, but generally about $30,000 and try not to let you out the door and will not tolerate too many questions if you hesitate. BE VERY WARY!!!!!!!!

Adding to the experiences above, It's always interesting to read their privacy policy here ==> www.trendwest.com.au/privacy.htm Shows people what type of company they are....

I never intended to buy the time share and I knew there would be pressure selling, but if its 2 hrs and no obligation (like the 'say anying to make a deal' indian told me) then the thought crossed my mind. But the indian didnt know I was on this forum! So anyway I dont want the stress of all this pressure selling crap. (you have to take your wife as part of it so you can make a deal on the spot!) And if they dont let you leave easily I hate that.

also I found this ASIC link about them so I have worked out the kind of people they are.

F4Phantom, print yourself a copy of the ASIC findings go to their meeting and stay the 2 hours, absolutely refuse to sign up and collect their freebies.
If there is in any way the same sort of misinformation from them that ASIC have mentioned pull out your copy and point out the error of their ways and threaten to go back to ASIC yourself. I'm sure they'll let you go with freebies in hand just to keep you quiet. ;-)
Regards Andrew.

We joined Trendwest about 5 years ago, we only paid $6000 which equated to about 1 weeks worth of Accommodation any where they have a resort. It has come in handy for when I am away from home for up to 6 months a year mainly during winter and I get SWMBO to fly up and stay in the resort. Better than me freezing back at home. You can even book the resort for your friends and family. We have my outlaws staying in the Cairns resort next month for their wedding anniversary.

Above all remember not to buy what you can't afford and that by law there is a cooling off period

Cheers Kev

6 grand! Bargain! Friend of mine signed up in 2000 for $13000. If you are going to use it a lot then it might be worth it. I often see Trendwest points going in the Trading post for $6k to $8k for 7-8000 points. My friend also did not take her partner with her and only let her in on her own after much debate. If it works for you then good onya. My own opinion is there are a lot better deals on the net.

Hang on! Is that right? Six grand equates to one weeks accommodation. Does that mean that your paying six grand for a roof over your head for one week? Someone please tell me I've misunderstood the post for goodness sake.

Hidden in the " fine " print ,you only get the ' free ' gift if you sign up there and then. 15 upwards thousand $ buy a lot of holiday accommodation where and when you want rather than "locked" into their system...one spiel we went to several yrs ago was for Tangalooma on Moreton Island ,the prices quoted as bargains on a per week share were in fact 3x the actual public hire rate for the same accommodation.

Also when I answered the phone, they said I had won a prize and all I needed to do was answer 3 questions. The last question was if I earn a combined income of 45k or more. If what Graeme was saying its 15k to 30k then I want to know who the hell can afford 15k to 30k accomodation on that kind of money! These guys qualifications of affordability is a little low.

F4

If your interested in buying Time Share, which can be beneficial depending on your circumstances, then look for a broker that sells them. A bit like buying a 'pre-loved' house. Not $15-30,000 - more like $5,000.
