Evening all,
I took the advice from numerous users regarding PDA's and GPS's - now have an Axim x51v and a BT338 Bluetooth GPS receiver.
My question is which software to use for address navigation in the city and which one for bush work, with
routes etc loaded in. I understand I'll need two separate programs - just which ones?
Thanks in advance,
Tim - Stratford.

Have recently purchased Trackranger mapping software. Have tried it with Auslig maps which have been pretty good. Would like to try it with the more current Natmaps. Works really
well with Sunmaps. Is compatible with any ECW map and any map scanned or downloaded can be manually callibrated.
Thanks

AFAIK Trackranger does not have a CE version so it will not work on PDAs ...only on laptops/PCs. OziExplorer is the pick of the bunch for bush work and as it has both CE and PC versions far more versatile (in this respect and many others).
Cheers

Hi Tim,
I use Co-Pilot for street nav and that seems to work OK for me. If you preload a destination and remember where you are 1/2 way to that destination and go via some "backstreets" that you know, it will continuously reroute until you get back onto a "main road" as it likes to keep to the main roads from what I have found. This is no probs if you have absolutely no idea where you are or where you are going.
I also use OziExplorer for track work but I am not at one with this program yet mainly because there is so much it can do. One reason for my choice of this program is so many people run it, I am more likely to be able to get help when I need it. No probs with what I have done with this program so far.
Hope it helps,
Trevor.

I use Tomtom for street level mapping and Ozi CE for the fun stuff! (and I'm still messing around with GPSGate so that I can use them both)

I'm yet to tackle the city navigation, so will watch this post keenly to see what is the best option there.
As for regional navigation; I use Oziexplorer. It has a PC & PDA version, so
routes, tracks, waypoints etc can all be created & modified on the big screen of a pc with the program's full functionality, then transfered to the pda (with both pc & pda running the same maps). Info can also be transfered to a conventional gps (or uploaded from one). Very happy with the program . . . just a matter of discovering all the things it can do.

I'm same as Dave TomTom for on road, although I also have Destinator and find that pretty good too, and Ozi for offroad, even used Ozi to map a trek in the Swiss Alps, its a purler.

Copilot for streets and oziexplorer for everything else.
There is a street index for Ozi, but it doesn't do turns.

For street navigation, I've used both Tomtom and Destinator. Both are excellent pieces of software. I found that Destinator suited my needs a little better than Tomtom but that was purely a personal preference.
Offroading, Oziexplorer is king. The Destinator maps surprisingly has a reasonable number of offroad tracks loaded but it doesn't have things like contours etc.

I use Ozi Ce and Tom Tom and in the process of adding Tracks4Australia type topomaps on in
John R from SA I can show you how Tom Tom works before you go out and buy one.
