Bonz (Vic)
Hi all,
A colleague of
mine who is a wealth of information on the atomic activity in Asutralia in the mid of the 20th century recently landed at Emu
airstrip and took a few pics and had a look around, next time he says I can come along for the fly too! He has put down some info at the site I have linked below. Its a first attempt so content is the most important not aesthetics!
Emu Atomic Site
He is a wealth of knowledge, take a look and let me know what u think.
Thanx GWBonz

Yep, we were there on 22 June this year.
Totem 1 and Totem 2 are concrete obelisks. The blast area is still pretty much devoid of tree growth 50 plus years later

I reckon you could still land a decent sized aircraft on the Emu
airstrip today- it is so firm and flat.
One observation at the Totem sites (especially Totem 1)- is the concentic circles of the shock wave radiating out from the concrete obelisk. Also, the ' melted' sand glass globules.

Hi Bonz. Your friend is to be commended on such a good idea. I hope he can attract many contributions from those who were involved at the time.
I have been doing a bit of light research but the only info on the internet has been Govt propaganda on the recent "clean-up". If I had the time I'd love to get into the Govt archives!! The air strip was a great drive...just imagine that Len's road across to the west was once just as smooth!!! Cheers
