I mentioned in my post that Nissan stated they later tested the towbar and decided to alter the manufacturer's rating, as they considered it could take more weight.
You probably got one of the 'new rated ones'.
Mine has a sticker which refers you to another sticker on the door which states 300K. I dont consider, and neither does most insurance companies, a sticker on the door as being the compliance plate.
I understand Nissan later changed the actual compliance plates on the towbars to suit their tests.
I would prefer to take the towbar manufacturers tested ratings.
The lower ball weight dependant on the loading weight in the vehicle is to make sure people do not overload the vehicle. It wont alter the weight the towball SHOULD be able to carry.
You will find most car manufacturers are now starting to alter their towball load ratings to show that although you may load the car to the max of, say 750K, you can't then plonk a caravan on the ball with an extra 350K.
