hi
I've got a 01 Lx rodeo 2wd and want to convert it to a 4wd. has any one heard or done this. i have research into it and found that i should only have to change the gear box and front hub assembly and install the front diff and tailshaft. any info would be great

I would imagine that it could be done but wouldnt it be a lot easier to sell yours and buy a rodeo 4wd. You would also have to make sure the diff ratios are the same, and I'm pretty sure not 100% that petrol diffs are differant ratio to diesel and vice versa, also lights on dash to inform you of high /low range etc is the wiring loom there for that, would also require engineers report I would imagine then you have the hassles of insurance.Just things to think about. If you really want a 4wd I would sell yours and if you like the rodeo's which I think are a great 4wd then buy one, I think you will run into problems along the way and would work out cheaper to sell and buy. Just my opinion. Have fun either way. Regards Steve M

I'm not an engineer but surely common sense says it would be cheaper and easier to trade it in for a 4wd. Take all of the extra goodies you have now and transfer them to the new one. You should still get a decent trade in for a 5 year old Rodeo.

many many many years ago i got roped in to helping change a 2wd f100 to 4wd...........seems all we had to do was install a front drive axle and t/fer case and stuff. ah the things you do when you are young and know everything.............trade it in on a 4wd - you will be a lot happier - unless of course you have plenty of time and money and access to a machine/fab shop and money and an engineer and money and are really so bored that you wish to start the project and have lots of money. oh yeah - we ended up getting the big effy to actually move all 4 wheels but angles and settings and stuff was all over the place so it came down to perth, got stripped and went down the 1/4 mile in the low 10s...........rgds
Slow down and relax......
