Tell me ...am I getting left behind by technology or what Maybe it's old age catching up, ....oh yeh and on that subject you can all go and ......yeh that means you too Willie, you old B but what I'm wondering is ..what's these new gizmo's
BT-338 Bluetooth SiRF III GPS about ,let me guess seems to have no screen so is it just to put a cursor on the OziExplorer maps on a laptop meaning the the only screen is the laptop screen ???? in other words if that's the case is that all they are good for.

Yep, use them with PDAs as
well - saves the hassle of a data cable, but you still need a power cord going to the bluetooth GPS, or recharge it every night.
I prefer a normal Garmin GPS because it still works when the laptop stuffs up, and it reliably backs up your track file.

Unless you have one that has throw away AAA or AA batteries ....or one of these...

I use a Garmin GPS. I considered Bluetooth but I like to take the Garmin with me on walks in the bush. Bit hard to carry a laptop.

PDA and bluetooth GPS works fine when walking (though I use CF GPS...no extra batteries to worrry about), With PDA you can use decent maps/airphotos (unlike "normal" GPS) - screens arent flash in some light conditions - wish HP would use used same screen technology as Magellan Explorists units.

Willie, I will hard wire my system to take the Magellan connection too when I find the book for it. All it would take is a three wire lead and two plugs and will have the sources of both information feeds I want. My PDA system has a plug capacity into the side of it for the hard wiring. I like the thought of designated GPS systems to some extent, having lost all my data once.
Lucy, ppfffffffffuuuuttt. LOL

Wireless is the way of the future folks, get with the program!
No point having cords all over the place when I can stick a match box on the dash and have it talk to the laptop or pda. Wonderful little gadgets. Fast lock on, no need for external antennas . . . . oh, the list goes on!

John, that is great too but read above I had to send my Bluetooth GPS away and use the reserve one a few months back. It was away for nearly three months being repaired!! I have the charger power point at the top by the mirror for it too. I will have a hard wired GPS ready too though.
Nearly all PDAs will lose power too and erase their data at some stage during their lives. This one is the fourth I have bought and I learn by experience too ;-) Dell Axim at 624 mhz is about the most powerful PDA processor being where we were talking about laptops for mapping just a year or so back.

John, Maaaaaaaate!
I know you hail from the south but hell man its not the deep south.
BT 338 not Holux - Bolux but BT 338.
Its like Toyota and Nissan - only problems with former are made by the owner/s of same, whilst the latter is an inherent pile of c r a p from day one (bit like a JEEP -oops! shouldn't have said that)
ROFLMAO
