G'day all

I will soon be heading on a trip to the Gulf country and will be heavily loaded and towing a camper with a 79 series landcruiser. I would like to keep the vehicle as level as possible and consider airbag assist a possible option on my standard suspension. I am unsure how suitable airbags are in offroad situations and which option is best, ie.belows or bag and coil.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Darren.

Darren,
I fitted bellows to my 2005 78 series a few months ago and have had several trips including Hay River, fully laden. I fitted better shockies but retained the standard springs. The set up has worked very well. I like the ability to be able to level the vehicle with different loads. The nuts on the retaiing bolts need to be doubled up, and wired on !!!

Darren

I just took off a pair of Polyairs out of the back of my 80 series after over 200,000 km of heavy loads and bad roads.

They had not failed - just seemed prudent when l changed from lifted back to standard springs. I have put a new pair in to help with caravan loads. Had them on a Jackaroo before that - it had leaf springs, and they did about 70,000 km from memory.

I reckon they are great in the rough stuff.

In the rough stuff, I prefer to keep it simple, so prefer to upgrade the leaf springs rather than fit extra airbags. 79series can hold a lot of weight and the ride is pretty good anyway.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I have received information today about a relatively new product called aussie super springs and I think they may be an ideal solution. They are a very simple single leaf addition to standard springs that only come into play as load is applied. Their website is www.aussiesupersprings.com.au
Price including fitting is about $500.00 which is a bit steep for a single leaf but not much dearer than airbags and there are definately some advantages over the airbag system.

Darren.
