Call your insurance company and ask

I've long since removed both of
mine. That is just one of about 1,000 things the insurance company (and the law) could find "wrong" with my Patrol (4" front/5" rear springs). I've given up worrying........the only way to be SURE you aren't gunna get rejected by an Insurance company if you lodge a claim, is to keep it bog stock. NO THANKS, I'll take my chances.

Tell them because it is a modification to the vehicle. I'd be surprised if they didn't simply note and agree to it. The risk of not telling them is that if there is an accident that the removal of the item became a contributing factor (in the accident) they might reject the claim.
I doubt it is a big issue, but just cover your bases.

If ever asked, just say it must have fallen off, or it just broke and hasn't been fixed yet - the old one's in the shed.

Of course the dog ate my homework - can't you see the smile on it's face?
Ciao for now
