Have a 97 NL 3.5litre Pajero. SOHC. Hoping to get some feedback on LPG conversion. Appears to be some conflicting information from gas fitters about the Pajeros. Some installers say that its not a good idea because problems can happen to the valves and cylinder heads.
Any info appreciated.

My son had a 3lt Pajero converted and after eight months had to have replacement valves and seats. After that work was carried out it went for three years without a problem.
I believe that the 3.5lt is a different.
Incedently my gas fitter refused to do the conversion on the 3ltr.

Hi Bomba,

As far as I know the 3.5l at that age was set up to allow gas conversions with the hardened valve seats and the like. Best to check with Misubishi though or ask the question on the Pajero forum at www.pajeroclub.com.au/ as there are some pretty knowledgeable people on there.

Tim.

Bomba:
I have a 2000 NL Pajero with 165000 km on it now - it has been on gas since new. I was told by Mitsubishi that the engine was 100% gas compatible, and so far it seems to be the case.

I have recently had problems with the thing slightly missing (150000 km) so I put new plugs in it. Lousy job. It ran OK until about 3 months ago, when it suddenly started backfiring. So I got a new set of HT leads (Top Gun) and put them in with another set of plugs (AC Delco). It ran beautifully until last week when it started backfiring again. Checking it in 100% darkness, you can see the sparks shooting down the HT leads. I think that the Top Gun leads are KRAP. It may even be the plugs - they may have opened up the gap

I have only just returned home with another set of HT leads (Bosch - $195 - OUCH!) and I will put the second set of plugs (NKG - same as original fitment plugs) back in it. The Bosch box says 100% gas compatible and would they lie to us??? Tomorrow will tell the sad story.

Otherwise, I can heartily recommend the beast on gas. Economy is good - less than 15 L/100 km at legal speeds without caravan, a tad over 20 L/100 km towing a 16.5 ft Jayco Pop Top van (at 90 - 95 km/hr). Range is typically 400 - 430 km from a 68L fill of gas. I cannot detect any difference in power between petrol & gas.

Hopefuly tomorrow will see the end of my HT problems for quite some time.

Hope this is of some value to you.
