Hi,
We will be taking off in less than 10 days to Fraser Island...not that anyone is counting. This question may seem odd but we have never headed to the queensland coast before and we are wondering if we will get the oppurtunity to collect some nice fresh oysters at low tide? I have searched Google but found nothing.
Are there any other shell fish available? or other goodies?
Thanks
Rod

Yugari (pippies) are usually plentiful..not bad tucker and bloody good bait. I don't fancy your chances with oysters though.
Cheers

From what I recall Fraser Is is 100% sand. No rocks for the oysters to grow on.

100% sand, are you sure about that. I seem to remember this large ROCK outcrop at
Indian Head, or was that hard packed sand?

Put the pippies in a bucket of fresh
water for a few hours, change it after an hour or so . At the end of 2-3 hours chuck them on a hot plate.
When they pop open, eat them, they are great. Pretty good in a curry too!

No oysters but plenty of pipis (ugeries or wongies by other name) if you go to the ABC
Newcastle web site you will find a great recipe for pipi chowder. It is t die for.

Oysters do grow around the
Champagne Pools and
Indian Head but usually all you'll find is the open shells..... The backpackers pick 'em clean.
Plenty of Pippies though.

From what was said earlier I thought that may have just been tourist pics of rocks elsewhere...:) I have tried the pipis as an excellent bait in the past, if the things will stay put on the hooks....slippery little suckers; I was amazed on my last fishing trip to watch them dive out the surf and into the sand real quick!
Will be trying that dish...and an early trip to
champagne pools...:) don't tell anyone though.
Thanks

You will find oysters on the hull of the Maheno ship wreck. I had a feed of them last time I was on Fraser
