Gday all in Oz! We (betta half and even better daughter and I) are travelling around Europe in a big Ford Campervan.

NO 4WD at all in Germany..... a thrilling experience to drive on the RHSide for the first time. MATE!!!!!! Cruising along, I overtook a truck at 135k/hr..... and the vehicles on the left were still flying past at around 160 - 180k

Saw the first Landcruiser in France..... then a whole heap at a horse event in Compiégne. A couple of short wheelbase Patrols but none since:

Late summer lots of green grass. It looks like Summer here is Spring for us:

In Poitiér France at the moment where they chopped off heads a while ago and sitting in an internet café beside a castle that is 900 years old::::: My view of the world is changing:: lots:

Very polite drivers:::: no I mean very polite::::: everyone is happy to help::: In France they all expect you to have a bash at speaking French:::: It took 35 years to have to use it... but amazing how you manage.

Mate,
. (that's an old Aussie term for Mon., err something Frenchish, Err - Boss? no no, wait; that's been replaced by , oh, never mind).
. Royce, what are the fuel consumption figures at those speeds? As you've noticed by the thumbnail, I drive a diesel Rodeo.Driving at 90 kph, we get around 10L/100km. Go to 105, and we fall to 12l/100. I fear to extrapolate!!
. Incidently, (and through no overt fault /sober decision on my part), I may be forced to step in a few of your footprints next year.
. Thanks for your post, and , Monsieur, enjoy your stay.

Maybe they don't "get" the Toyota advertising.

Maybe they think a rigid-axle frontend is unsafe at Autobahn speeds ????

The Brit coppers ran Discos and Rangies at motorway speeds and apparently were very happy.
Maybe Landies are better at high speed:-)

Agreed. But I was talking Coppers not normal motorists.
British Coppers seem to have the same reagard for speed limits as the ones here.

Besides speed in a Landie is different. Every k over 100 feels like 2, over 120 every one k feels like 3. This is ingenious British safety engineering and is exclusive to Land Rover:-))))))))))

It's because of the old 4.2 diesel and the petrol engine as well not being able to pass the emissions tests.

No 4.2 Patrols either only 3.0ltrs.

Even now the TD5 LR motor doesn't comply, hence going to the new TDV6.

I would think off road ability and durability in the bush are low on the list of priorities for European buyers.
