Hi froomey,
What do you mean by "it was a very good system", the bearings or the whole draw assembly.
Most guys use the Hettich 100kg draw runners, is that what you are talking about ?

Hi,

I have made a drawer system and a fridge slide that uses roller bearings as runners, what exactly do you need to know? - I dont have any plans as such.

I also made drawers for the Hilux based on 'geocacher's' plans. Made from plywood, metal slides and roller bearings, then covered with marine carpet. Much stronger than any drawer slide. My unit is 1500mm long and I doubt that I could get premade slides that long anyway.

There are these ones:
H/D DIY draws

It gives a design to fit a Jackeroo, but you can just adjust the dimensions to suit your vehicle. (scroll down near the bottom to find the detail drawings) I have 3/4 made a set for my vehicle, just need to get some draw handles and finish the draws.

I built a very similar set using the same roller system ( smaller bearings however) except using 12mm ply instead of metal for the frame, The drawers sides were made of pine (18mm shelving actually) and the bottom was ply.

I am really surprised at how well the system has held up. with most home made designs you expect to have to tinker over time to fine tune but these have just worked from day one. Much to my delight the drawers have been around now for 7 years and are going strong, many many trips including a 3 month tour of the top end where they were used every day many times.

The basic design works very well, but critical is to drill holes for the bolts that hold the bearings acurately so they all line up. loktite everthing.

I had some rough drawings and Mr Ply and wood in Blacktown cut the ply to size for me for a couple of dollars, I originally had a thicker ply in mind but the guy at the store said it was overkill and not needed.

cheers

You can buy Haefle.. for all types of draw slides that you can incorprate into your own system.. I have used them and they are excellent in my system..

Hi froomey,

The plans are available to download on my website.

4wdstuff.davejones.com.au

Let me know if you need any further info.

There's a few sets floating around now. Mine have done at least 50,000km now much of it off road and have stood the test without any discernable difference from the day I built them.

I've built another set for a Navara for a mate, and there have been many built off the plans.

You can build them for about $400.
