Hi all
I have just relocated to
Perth from
Brisbane and since the weather forecast is looking good for this weekend I was thinking of doing the
Wedge Island run. Anyone done this lately and know the current beach conditions? I drive a Mits Challanger. I am pretty confident in (east coast) sand, having done Fraser Is many times, but no idea as to the west. I was thinking of following the trek notes listed here with an additional side trip to the Pinnicles.
High tide (at Jurien - the closest I could find) is at 3am and 0.98m. Low is at ~3pm and 0.48m. Not sure if this is a big or small tide for this area.
Any help appreciated.
Regards
Tim

Cant comment on current conditions as I was up there about 4 weeks ago, we stayed off
the beach between
lancelin and wedge, took the back tracks around and through the bombing range.
I did read that they are conducting bombing throughout the month of august/ september. It would be worth looking at the Dept of Environment and Conservation (FKA CALM- constipation and lack of management) website to check for updates.

Have fun, a great drive through that way.

Further South (
Two Rocks-
Wilbinga and surrounds)
The beach has been washed out and stretches of beach that were 5-10m wide are now just wide enough to drive. Doing the
two rocks run last fortnight there were sections we were bogging down in with 12psi at 60km/h.... Just leave plenty of space between you and the waters edge.
Tides in
lancelin are virtually the same as
perth. 1m is high- usually a 30-50cm difference from high to low.

Having driven on the sand at Cape Arid area last year and coming from driving experience from many many visits to Fraser and Moreton we found the driving on sand really different to Qld. Where on Fraser you drive on the wet low tide sand which is firm we found the WA wet sand to be very soft and a fetl like air rated. We found we drove on the higher part of
the beach away from
the beach line. Could have been the time of year we were on
the beach though.
