Have just got back from 4 weeks in the Kimberleys and am trying to edit my video tapes. Previous editing of tapes I have played back through TV/Video and edited that way. This time I am using Windows Movie maker on the computer but when viewing the playback from camera through Movie makerit is out of focus, and I don't seem to be able to get the setting right where the viewing is sharp. Is this typical the way it plays back through Movie maker, or am I missing something in the program?
Has anyone else experienced this or able to point out to me what I should be doing.
Regards, ERICMWA

Eric,
Try editing before the evening red wine. I find this helps!

Alot of the time the movie makers make the preview image blurry to let your computer handle it better/run faster, then when you actually save the footage it saves the sharp picture.

Thanks, BenSpoon, what you say makes sense. I'll give it a go and see what happens

Make a DVD of a small section and play it back and see how it is. The quality looks poor as the video is a saved as an AVI file but when it is converted to MPEG in the rendering process this fuzzyness goes away.

EricMWa,

Have you got Windows Movie Maker set to capture PAL?
Go to Tools, Options, Advanced, Video properties and set to PAL not NTSC.

Windows Movie Maker is ok. It's free. However there are much better alternatives. I guess it depends on how fancy you want to go.

Without spending a lot of money you can get much better programs.

Keep an eye out for Cyberlink Power Producer & Power Director. I did my cousins wedding using this program and it turned out very professional. It is often bundled free with other hardware. I got mine when I purchased a DVD burner. I have also seen it bundled with Firewire PCI cards.

You can buy online for about $80-$100, but like I said keep an eye out for an OEM version.
