Driving out the road yesterday the glow plug light came on on the dash.Checked at work today and the glow plugs glow normally and shut off then 30 odd seconds later the light comes on BUT there is no power going to the plugs.
Have been across Ivanhoe Crossing 3 times in the last couple of days but water level was no higher than half way up wheels.
Im thinking alternator as if you idle the vehicle it takes ages to come on but if you rev it it comes on straight away.No water has entered vehicle, all floor carpets bone dry and no rain up here.
Any Ideas Guys Thanks Nick

Nick

Assuming you have wriggled the relay and any connectors you can see around the glow plugs, I'd have a look at the loose harness plugs around the engine bay that are there for accessories you haven't got. They can collect dust and water and give funny signals - met someone once who was stopped stone dead up north for several days because of a short in one of them until the auto electrician finaly twigged that it was .

A good blow out of all the ones you can find would be a good start point.

Another thought - in the 80 series at least, after the glowplug light goes out, the plugs get half voltage for another minute or so. Assuming the 100 does the same, if a crook relay or timer, ora burned resistor, was not letting that happen, perhaps the glow plug light is getting a false signal.

Good luck

Yeah its got hundreds of un used plugs around the engine bay.
The glow system also glows on for 1 minute after start up and the light goes out on the dash. The bit that gets me is that it shows its glowing but dosnt actually glow,Im wondering if the temp sender for the starting system is a bit dodgy.

Nick,
#1 If there were more dash lights coming up, I'd suggest that it was poor contact with the plug in the back of the alternator - but it still worth checking out.
#2 Any problem with the earth connections for the dash??

Hi Nick, We get this problem all the time with the 100s at work (mine cars) 1- check the small hose that comes off the vacume pump it might be blocked in the steel fitting.
2- check the connection on the coolant sensor the one in the block behind the injector pump.
3-check the connections on the sensor on the intake tube, the one on the backside, with 3 wires going to it.
If you dont find anything wrong you will need to get codes from the ECU to point you in the right direction. Hope this helps. good luck.
