Hi everyone, was wondering if someone can help. Have got oziexplorer and recently bought a BU-353 mouse gps from exploreoz. Am having trouble trying to get them to work together. Any help much appreciated.

Bit more info required.
What are you trying to get the BU353 to talk to and what have you tried so far?

Hi
Let me make a bold statement - I am highly suspicious that Ozi will not recognise a USB GPS, hopefully someone will enlighten me. I'm damned if I can get my GPS to work with Ozi either. I'm trying to connect a CF GPS via a CF to USB converter and have had no luck yet. But to get to your problem try the following:-
You may have the wrong COM port set in the Configuration in Ozi.
Go to your Control Panel in Windows select System, Hardware and then Device Manager. Once in there look at Ports (Com & LPT) and try and find where your GPS is connected (ie which Com Port). If it cannot be found then I think you have the same problem as I do and someone else may be of more assistance. If you find the COM port number which is connected to your GPS then the next step is take note of which number com port it is (eg COM 5) then log back into Ozi, go into Configuration and set the same com port setting in the COM tab of the Configuration. Once that's done and you switch on your GPS in Moving Map
You should be away. Make sure the GPS is set to NMEA as
well in the GPS tab and that the baud rates are correct in the COM tab.
Be warned that the com port may change when you reboot you PC so if it doesn't work next time you switch on, assuming it was working before,
check your com port setting when you switch on your pc.
Good luck and I look forward to seeing you solve your problem.

Mine is a Garmin Quest USB and it works with Oz maps ok , one has to go into the settings and fix that up and if you have not got the OziExplorer update forget it.

I am running the oziexplorer update and use both a USB mouse GPS and a Garmin Etrex without any problems.

Hi Trekker,
Go to Control Panel, System, Device manager, and see what port the GPS is installed on or if it is installed at all. Then go back to OziExplorer and set the GPS cnfiguration the the same port. Ozi supports 9 Com ports and handles USB and PCMCIA.
Hope it assists

First question, do you have the drivers for the GPS loaded?
To
check for the Com port and if the GPS is communicating load the GPS Port Checker software available at www.oziexplorer.com/ >utilities>GPS Port Checker>Go to GPS Port Checker page and follow the instructions.
I run a Garmin GPS18 USB GPS and it is a great little unit to plug into the laptop, no power supply issues, has a magnetic base to mount dirrectly onto the roof and has never lost signal even in dense tree and cloud cover.
Have fun.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Much appreciated.. I did
check the port settings and that part seems to match up ok. Also the baud rates. The GPS unit fires up fine when I plug it in and I do have the full version of Oziexplorer which also works great. When I try to start up the gps in moving maps I get a com port error message. Do I have to save the gps files in a particular part of Oziexplorer?
