Cammo
Hello all
I have bee searching through the
forum looking for information fuel additives. I have found a lot of discussion around additives for diesel but almost nothing for unleaded petrol engines.
I have a 4.5 100 series petrol cruiser and was wondering if anyone is using or has used fuel additives in their petrol rigs. If so, which ones and did it make any difference to economy or power ?
Thanks

most of the adds available do more harm than good...
if you can get your hands on a couple of different ones, try pouring some into a spoon and heating it up with a lighter. watch how much carbon is created. think of this build up on pistons and valves. i'm yet to see a retail product that doesn't do this.

Hi Cammo,
I am afraid I cannot agree with the feedback above that additives do more harm than good. Additives have been used in gasoline from day dot back in the early 1900s. You'll find that every gasoline sold in Australia will have additives of various types included. Without the use of additives you wouldn't have gasoline as we know it.
Most fuels should provide for trouble free operation of the fuel system. The early problems with port fuel injector deposits has been resolved by the use of detergent additives; however can still arise from time to time. If you notice poor performance I'd tried use of a fuel injector cleaner in the first instance. I'd recommend use of Techron before removing injectors. Refer comments on thread above 37255.
Regards,
Hugh
