Hi all - this relates to Melbourne (or near to) people.
We have found a person who will conduct a boat licence plus jetski course in our home for $70per head. This is a 3 hour course and guarantees a licence from Vic roads.
We have committed to a course on Friday 8th September at our home in Berwick. If anyone is interested then contact me on e-mail at garry_sonnberger@netspace.net.au

You really do not have to be a Rhodes scholar to pass to the Vic. boat licence test...just study the book they give you for a couple of weeks and you should not have any trouble at all...I am certainly no Einstein and found it to be relatively easy...but ..I have been using boats for some years...cheers

problem is not with the test - it is with getting to a VicRoads office. I work in Brisbane through the week (for another 6 weeks). One VR office is open staturday morning once per month and the option this month does not work for me. So this is the easiest option to get a licence before my son drives me nuts wanting to go out in the new tinnie.

GazzaS [vic] ,to the best of my knowledge a Qld boat licence is valid Australia wide , easy as ,just get a statement of competency then pays your money ,currently $35.85 at Qld transport offices and you have you licence [lifetime] ,,heaps of "training schools" about ,Archies is the oldest ,has brand new boat ,

The problem with having a QLD. boat licence and Vic. address is that if you get asked to show your licence in Vic.and you live in Vic. then you will need to have a Vic. licence ....down south west in Vic. we once were able to use a S.A licence in the Glenelg river in Vic. waters ...but not any more...got to have the Vic. licence sir if you live in that state...cheers

Furthermore, from Marine Safety Vic:

==============================================
Interstate licences will be automatically recognised in Victoria.
----
Interstate licence holders
Victorian residents holding interstate licences will be able to convert to an
equivalent Victorian boat operator licence by taking their existing licence,
along with appropriate proof of identity to a VicRoads Customer Service
Centre (annual licence fees apply).
Interstate licences held by Victorian residents will be recognised in Victoria
until 1 February 2006 or until expiry, whichever comes first.
----
Interstate visitors
Interstate visitors who hold an interstate boat operator licence, restricted
boat operator licence or PWC endorsed licence, are able to operate the
equivalent vessel in Victoria for a period of three months. If the operation
of the vessel extends beyond three months or the visitor does not have
an equivalent interstate licence for the vessel they wish to operate,
then a Victorian licence must be obtained.
