I dont know if this info is of any use, but a friend of mine had his hilux lifted, and in doing so toyota installed prado torsion bars.

Prado's dont use torsion bars, they use struts

well, must be the struts they replaced, as it was prado suspension.

thanks for the heads up

When you said they replaced the torsion bars, i assumed you were talking about the previous model Hilux, the new Hilux uses pretty much the same front end set-up as the Prado, didnt mean to come across as a smart a*rse, if thats how i came across.

Cheers, Chris

Yes, very happy. Have used ARB suspension kits on all previous vehicles - am just as happy with the Ironman setup. Rides well on and off road. Not had any issues with it at all - was impressed with the attention to detail of the ironman crew at Clayton as well.

Hey Jimbo, you Terracan guys need to take a video camera out with you - don't know why, but some need to see it to believe it. Those Terracans go well. Hope all is well with you and Jenny. We should catch up soon - has been a while. There was talk of a Stamford night - not sure when though, Truckster was arranging it I think.

This was my experience when trying to find a new suspension setup for my new Hilux

I looked at fitting the Ironman as well, the price was good. I had trouble however working out which spring rate to fit, choice of hard, soft or medium was difficult when there was nothing to compare or a vehicle to test/try. I had never used or had to fit an after market suspension kit before purchasing the Hilux, so I was new to all this.

What I mean is I didn't want to fit the heavy to find out it was no good for me - to hard or whatever

I ended up having ARB fit the Old man emu stuff, they offered free change over if I didn't like the original setup they suggested. I had Hard springs fitted in the front and Medium in the rear.

The hard turned out to be the wrong choice, I didn't like it, to hard, far to high and not enough articulation, it was very rigged for my trucks weight and setup. They change it to Medium set at my request at no cost.

Suppose what I am getting at is the bonus of being able to changing the suspension if I didn't like it was worth the extra cost of the ARB.

The new suspension has transformed the Hilux into a Great truck and high country usable :-) its great now - VERY happy

This didn't answer you question wether Ironman is good and bad but thought I would share this with you anyway

Hi Brett,

I have been happy with ARB gear in the past - and like with you they sorted out some issues I had with their setup on a Pathfinder - the strut failed - they fixed it. The front springs also sagged, they swapped them out. Just not sure on whether this service constitutes the extra $$ for the ARB gear.

Reason being, the guys at Ironman provided the same service when I got their kit for the Patrol. I had it installed prior to putting a rear wheel carrier on, and when I went back to ask them what I could do to get the ride height back up they offerred to swap the springs over as they said the set they put in didn't suit the application anymore. Felt guilty about this as I hadn't told them at the initial fitting that I was going to fit a rear bar (didn't know myself at the time)

In addition, they spent a heap of time when I first went there to ensure I knew all the options available. They seemed genuinely interested in ensuring I got the right setup and was happy. They also spent ages making sure it was all level and set-up right. The vehicle sits dead level and rides excellent both on and off road.

Sorry about the long winded post, but I am pretty wrapped in the kit and the service Ironman provided. I have had enough of the ARB / TJM fob off (ie.only interested in a sale...right away) and it was so good to have a 4wd company do more than what was just necessary.

>>> or a vehicle to test/try

I dont think anyone could really expect all suspension sellers to have every combo available each and every day for people to try and every spec of truck, other accessories and weights etc.

I put the OME on mine. Very happy, but after returning from recent Kimberley trip, I took it back to ARB as the front had dropped a bit. They measured and agreed that it had dropped about 25mm from when the original fit was done.

They have agreed to fit new front springs at no cost. Hope to have it done next week.

Not good that they dropped so quickly (although we did over 6,000 off the bitumen). But great that they are prepared to back their product with a decent warranty.

I chose OME in part due to rep, but also they were the first with a kit for the new Hilux that seemed to have had some genuine R&D and testing.

G'day Shannon. Hope all is well with the family. Sorry to see you are out for the trip in Sep - we'll have to head back to somewhere like Bindaree when it gets a bit warmer. Looking forward to catching up sometime soon.

LOL ACDC, I am sure - not associated with them, just happy to give a company a wrap when I get a good product or service which I believe is good value. If something was wrong with the suspension or the service I would also say so.

Turbo, I was very happy with the lads at Ironman in Clayton. Its not just a case of "made the sale, now seeya later". Very good after sales service. Will post details of how well the set-up goes on Cape York when I get back.

Hey Shannon, Actually it'll be about 9 days, 1hr and 15 minutes!!
But who's counting.....hehe.
I'll be thinking of you, mate, when I'm downing a Cougar or Bundy (or both!!) kickin back, wetting a line on the Siesia Jetty or off Marks 50 foot Cat moored on some god forsaken deserted island in the Whitsunday's.

Someones gotta do it! hehe

Gday ,

4 main problems,, Ride was too hard, had trouble controling the 80 series on gravel road bends at speeds of no more then 60K, kept tearing the rubbers out on the shockies,(and yes they were fitted corectly) and finally the shockies could no thandle the towing of my camper trailer. putting those ironmans on really ruined my last holiday, needles to say as soon as I got home I ripped them off, put my standards back on and through the ironmans in the bin.

Moser, that doesn't sound good. Who did the selection and fitting of the setup - Ironman themselves or another retailer?

Why did you toss them - why not go back to Ironman to give them an opportunity to sort out the issues - or at least refund your dough?

I'll ask the obvious question:

How long ago did all this happen?

When I had dealings with them 2 1/2 years ago they were VERY helpful and intersted in any and all feedback.

They can't fix a problem if they don't know about it....
