I recently bought one of those cast iron plates for cooking on, its made by companion, but best is, it not only works with a fire, its made to fit 2/3 burner stoves, it just sits on top your stove... instant barbie! Dran good fit too
I have a 3 burner and it runs this cast iron plate with just middle burner on so low, and whole plate end to end is stinking hot, great for cooking on and after I lift it off onto ground and throw
water on it and it self cleans.
(I always wonder why cast iron doesnt crack when you do that.... I figure that the
water boils straight away, itd prob crack if you threw it in a pool or similair)
All for $28
Top buy if you ask me
Ron

Yep you're right, they are a top buy. We bought one at the beginning of the year from Big W. We only paid $20 though.

Cast Iron cracks because it has a high rate of expansion and contraction when heated. It normally cracks whe you cool down only a portion of it.
I burn off my
camp ovens and then drop them in
water all the time. As long as you immerse the whole thing at the same time you should be ok.

Yes Ron - we bought one at
Easter to stick on our 2 burner and it was
well worthwhile. We also use it directly over a wood fire (when campsites allow open fires).
The little butane gas stove mentioned above are also very handy - we regularly use both to speed up cooking.

Dimensions... would be 17.5 inches by 8.5 inches.
Tried one of those gas types with the cartridges and had the ring thing which you put
water in to catch fat etc. but we never really rated it, it used to have meat stick to it and was impossible to clean right, dont think it was real cast iron though.
As for cleaning with cold
water, I've always done this with barbies,
camp ovens etc, never had one crack yet, just cleans em up real good real fast n easy.
If you dont use this method, how do you clean yours then?
