Just spoke to the local Toyota guy's in
Karratha whom i asked about the warranty issues associated with using blended Bio and normal diesel. They have advised me that anything above 5% will currently null and void warranty! Apparently the CSIRO have been testing Bio in various %'s and are about to put out a report for the government. Toyota will then put out a bulletin regarding the use of this fuel in thier vehicles. Until i find out which way Toyota is going to go i'm afraid the biofuel will have to wait. Bit of a shame for the environment though, thought Toyota led the way with hybrid's and "environmentally friendly" concepts ?

RAC magazine last month had a list of the different major car manufacturers and which ones could use what % if any bio-diesel. Can't find the magazine at the moment, but there were some big variations. I think Nissan was 5%.

Most are probably using 5% without knowing it as some refineries are adding bio to replace the lubricity lost with the introduction of low sulphur diesel.

There was a US report a while ago that actually slammed Toyota's "enviro-friendly" hybrids. It stated that although they chewed a bit less fuel than most small-engined cars while they were on the road, they were extremely costly to the environment when you took in the building and eventual disposal costs of them. Even large 4WD's cost less in these terms over the life of a vehicle. Not so friendly now apparently.....
