I've been using an electronic one for over ten years now, very acurate in 1/2 lb incremements, switchable to those other funny metric things.
A big bonus for us of poorer sight is the large (10mm) display, very easy to read.
I've yet to change the battery too.

Anaconda had Bushranger combined guage/deflator for $19.95 here last week this is very good with clear readout down to below 10psi.
Been finding
mine more useful than straun deflators as you don't have to keep taking in on and off to adjust
Think there in
Brisbane somewhere.

Robin,
I bought a similar thing off ebay for about the same price, but it is a "clip-on" fitting and has a screw thread on the other end so that it can be used for tyre inflation as
well (that is it's primary purpose).
Site Link
Similar to this. If you want to only check your tyre pressures, you simply clip it on to the valve stem and the gauge will read-out what it is in. If you need to inflate and have your own compressor, then you simply plug the pump hose onto the fitting and pull the trigger....too easy.

Good to know Grizzle, sometimes specials are short. I have to use those cheap reading glasses for close up now, and I find that the simple clear guage is readable without them unlike my digital LCD tyre guage.
I've done similar things based on posts and really appreciate them.
How come your name is still Grizzle , I thought you were in love with your new
4.2 GU diesel.

Grizzle is actually a play on my surname (Greenwell), some people called me Grizwald as per National Lampoon and it has gradually shortened to Grizzle. Everybody calls my 14 year old son Grizzy.
Yes I do love my Patrol and have been working flat out wiring the car and van for our trip up to Uluru,
Alice Springs and
Oodnadatta Track. The sad thing is that it has only done 100km/hr once just after I got it. I have been working flat out and it's first real shout will be the day we start out for our trip (15 Sep). I can't wait!!!!
Cheers

Robin
I got one to day but can not work out how to use it.
The only turning part on it is the end screw that attaches to the valve the rest of the unit does not turn even with a spanner I have followed the instructions but it will not turn.
Can you Help

BBB,
It's probably the same sort of thing that Bushranger have on the end of their compressors. The black "box" has to be pushed back away from the bit that screws onto to valve and turned at the same time....about a quarter turn.
Cheers

Hi BBB
Sort of what Roachie said - you screw it on and then push the black box to release air.
If you push and turn clockwise it locks into release air mode.
JUst untwist it anticlockwise to stop releasing of air and read air pressure again.
Quite good for easily adjusting pressures as you get used to it.

I've got a VXO dial gauge from ARB - a bit under $50 from memory. Push button to reset, so you don't have to read the pressure while it's actually on the tyre stem.
I think you get them included with the ARB compressor if you buy the portable version in a box - I bought
mine separately. Faaaaaar better than one of those pencil style gauges.

Another vote for the ARB guage as described by Sbubaroo above! A good value guage!

If you ever see one of those Snap-On trucks cruising around, flag it down and get one of their $60 analogue guages.
The one I have has taken a beating, and is still as acurate as they come. Not sure what pressures you guys would run in the 4by's, but this one goes up to 60psi.

Like Robin I have a Bushranger combined guage/deflator. Since buying it I tend to drop pressures down when moving onto to the dirt because it is easy to do. Previously I tended to talk about it but not be bothered because of the hassle with just a standard gauge. Paid ~$20 from 4WD Warehouse.

I've got an Aunger. Metal body, big clear gauge and a reset button. I think I paid $10 from Supercheap.

Do you have a site link or brand name or where did you buy it from and how much was it and did it take much fitting.
Thanks

Oh! easy to fit do it yourself, replaces the tubeless valve fitting so you don't have to take the tyre of the rim.
Mine cost $580 but i think they are now $480 a kit.
