Got the chance to get some XGS shocks/springs at a good price(read $250 cheaper than OME).Ive always used OME suspension but am willing to give XGS a try. What are peoples experiances with these? How do they compare to OME?Apparently I can only go three inches higher with them but that will do.

Can't comment on OME stuff, but I am happy with my XGS shockers/Lovells spring combo.
Previously had Konis with the same springs and they were good, but eventually wore out around 160,000klm. Could have sent them away to be rebuilt, but that would've left me with no wheels for a week or 2.....not an option.

So I bought the XGS's cos they were only $135- each (Koni's were over $200-). Have done about 40,000klm since (including a Simpson Crossing....hard on shocks) and all is good so far.

Unlike a lot of ppl, I don't believe the hype that you MUST buy a "package" from a particular manufacturer. Some ppl believe OME etc actually get the shocks and springs in some sort of inter-woven, never-to-be-tampered-with combination and that your car will fall on it's side if you have springs from X company and shocks from Y company......Bullchit I say!!!!!!

Exactly. Most "Brand Name" shockies are made by one or two companys anyway, ie Monroe or Cofab. Have you ever seen a TJM ,OME, ra ra ra factory anywhere?

How did you find the ride.As Truckster said(and have heard a few other people say it) that they give a firm to hard ride.
The only reason for going matched sets is ease of purchase, especially here, and if any thing does go wrong with either your only chasing one brand not two.

theres only 2-3 companies in Australia that make shocks. they make them for other companies TO THAT COMPANIES SPECS... I love people sayign "ome are made by fooqakchuk's but the fooqakchuk's are only $10each, they are the same"...

probably the most important part of any suspension package is to get them matched to each other - as in rates and lengths.

I had the bottom rubbers on my OME shocks chop out on a Kimberley trip shortly after fitting them. Was quite surprised, as were the ARB people. They replaced them for free back in Perth, but that sort of thing shouldn't have happened. Been ok since. Might have been a couple of dicky rubbers in a batch. Shocks themselves are ok.

Had both on the GQ..

XGS good for the price, but a bit harsh.

OME totally different setup, but very much smoother compared.

Koni's MMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. now also on the GU

Have a look at Bilsteins shocks mated to Lovells springs while ya there - rated as a very good combo for Cruisers.

As for 'mating' springs and shocks it actually does make sense, at least in the performance world anyway. Not sure how much of a difference it makes for the regular car/4WD tho - most people wouldnt be able to tell the difference.
