Advertised a sat phone on Ebay. It was snapped up at the buy it now price. Then I get an email from a guy with a NT address which looks decidedly *sus*. This is followed by an email full of Christian greetings and explaining that he's only here on a mission (yeah right) and would I ship it to NIGERIA. Oh yes he'll pay for everything......
No doubt I've won an overseas lottery. Or only need to send a few thou to make a million.
I've been taken to the cleaners twice on Ebay, one such occasion is chronicled here home.iprimus.com.au/jimshire/scam.html
I'm not about to be taken again.
The sad thing is that it isn't good for the genuine buyers and sellers.

Hi yooze Footloosely
I am not the slightest bit interested in in even going to the webdite for E-bay , would rather go to the local shops that risk buying stuff from overseas, Pay for it and take it home on the day, anyhow I hope they didn'y fleece you too much .

Thanks, Doug. I guess it just reminds us to deal with people we know or who we can get to know.
I posted this as a reminder to all the honest people out there, and I know that's most of the population.
I don't think I'll get taken this time. But it will cost me to relist the item.
The scammer will probably give my email addy to some delightful purveyers of third world morality when he finds out I'm onto him :((

relisting after a non paying bidder is free ..
just follow the rules and you'r fine ..
I have made many many transactions
and had no problem when you buy from
the right people .. we sell a 6 figure amount
of products on ebay every year and never
had a real problem ... just a matter of practise..

regards
gmd

Best thing you can do with that sort of fellow is string them out - get them wasting their time on you instead of some other poor sucker who might fall for it. One only hopes that with enough failures the individuals involved give up.

I guess they work on percentages. He's probably *bought* a hundred items. If only one is unaware then he's going to make money for nothing (and his chicks for free ?:)) That aint workin, that's the way to do it etc.

Low life scum.

Pete, whatdya mean WAS a good song. It still is :)) I rekkon it's my son's theme song. He wanted to be a muzo but ended up as a boilermaker. He'd play music (and he's good at it) all night and day if he didn't have to pay his bills.

Yes it is still a good song. I bought the CD a few weeks ago after it was played on the radio and I found myself humming it all day. Great video clip as well - have you seen the Weird Al version?

You may find this link interesting (and hilarious) showing how one guy deals with scammers.

Just went to that site - what a laugh. I read through most of one of the letter chains, these blokes have way too much time on their hands but have a hell of a lot of fun with the scammers!

Good to see them get some of their own back.

Cheers Andrew

Hey Footy

Is that the Satphone that wouldnt work out in the Great Sandy......LOL

Every time I have advertised in the Trader here on EO I have attracted the scammers. But that was a long time ago.

Ebay works for some but seems too complicated for my use :-)

Cheers

Willem, its not really complicated. But its got its own way of doing things. Out of 200 transactions there I've been stung twice. But now I'm just a tad less naieve :))

Report this to eBay - they have good safeguards, and try to prevent fraud. We are warned not to reply direct to messages received through eBay because then they have your email address. I have received the odd nasty - followed by an email warning from eBay telling me i may have received something which breaches their rules and is a risk.

Guys
Its always prudent to dot your eyes when dealing over the net to a faceless person.....i just sold my beloved white cruiser over ebay......there were 4 biddders interested in it, a few days after the sale, i get three calls from bidder no, 2.3.4 asking if the email for the second chance came from me....
IT DIDNT, the winner had a deposit on the car already.....so these emails were sent to spoof at ebay dot com dot au.....but hey....ebay wont catch them....not from the Swiss alps anyway :)

One of the apprentices at my work just got ripped good and proper.

He got a laptop from a guy in Melbourne, paid $1500 , got nothing . Apparently wasnt the first time this guy had done it , ebay forgave him and let him sell more stuff , or pretend to .

Ive bought heaps of tools from the states and always had no problems.

Glenn.
