R151F gearbox probs

hi ya all= just want to get a bit of a idea of the cost to get the output shaft and gear replaced in my cruisers r151f gearbox.

ive been quoted $1600 to $1800 from 1 mechanic and $2650 from another mechanic.
id like to hear what sort of coin it has cost other people that have had it done and weather you just got the shaft done or went for the full rebuild.

i havent been getting any metal in the oils, but are heading off around the state in the next few weeks and want to get it done b4 we go.

if the full rebuild is the go, would it be cheaper to buy a new box.

the cruiser has done 110,000kms.
