Hi all,

Heading off to Red Centre in two weeks - went to check the (Warn) winch yesterday & clutch lever soesn't swing through it's full arc, can't get it into neutral & attempting operate the winch gives just a click from the solenoid & no rotation of the drum.

Have had a quick flick through old posts & realise I am guilty of not looking after my winch!

Does anybody have suggestions on who to approach re getting it serviced?

(I'm guessing that my local ARB dealer is likely to be the most expensive option!)

Located in Sandringham VIC - something close would be handy.

Thanks in anticipation

TJM Seaford would be easy pickings. Alan was cheap when I got mine done.

If you want the best they are in Heidelberg.

Hi Grizzle,

Ours is also a School Holiday trip - nibs 11 & 9, so if yours are around the same size, meeting up along the way would be good.

The plan (as it stands this hour!):
Leave Melbourne morning of Monday 18 Sep (prior commitments for the weekend 16/17)
Monday night wherever we end up
Tuesday night Coober Pedy
Heading for Uluru - they have advised no need to book unpowered sites around this time, so whether we stay two nights in Coober Pedy, to be determined.
Expect two maybe three nights at Yulara
Then to Kings Canyon
Mereenie Loop to Ormiston Gorge
Gorge & Chasm hop to Alice
All of the above subject to change on a whim(!) & SWMBO has requested swimming holes.

Home route to be determined by how much time we have left!

Regards

Boy 14, Girl 12. Also travelling with two other families with same age kids. We are leaving on Friday 15th but should be in same vicinity as you at same time. Send me your email address and we will definately try to catch up en route.

Cheers.

Peter,

If you can get to it, try and get the cover off your contol/solenoid box. Sounds like it is full of mud and crap. Spray liberally with WD40 or similar and you should then get power to your motor. Just by getting it to spin might let you free the lever. This usually fixed my clicky-click problems. Otherwise, they are not very well waterprrofed and you may need to strip it down and clean it up. Not too hard, the hardest part is getting the winch our of the bullbar.

I followed these instructions when I did mine myself:

Site Link

I am in Highett. There are a couple of places up near me that you could ring for a quote. I have not used them, but the guys at Don Hyatt recommend All Terrain 4x4:

All Terrain 4x4
690 South Road
Moorabbin. 3189

95325558

www.allterrain4x4.com.au

If they can't do it, they will recommend someone near us who can.

Wazza.
