Just got the bill for the GU rebuild - new clutch, flywheel, block, pistons, rings, oils, head checked - no cracks, hoses, backflushed radiator etc, $1500 - after a letter to Nissan Customer Relations - was going to be 50:50 parts & labour, very surprised - it should never have happened, buts its running like a dream - good for another 3 & a half years.

That's very good news Yakodi, I know a lot of us here were thinking that Nissan were going to leave you in the lurch. It's good news that Nissan looked after you.
Regards Andrew.

What makes you think that the problem will occur again?
There must be a reason why they are changing the block.

It's a reasonable outcome but I still think you shouldn't have had to pay the $$$. But it least you are back on the road!!
Did you find out any details about what and why it happened?

Yes - pretty good, didn't pay for labour or parts for rebuild kit, payed for head to be checked, oils, clutch kit (heavy duty),
Hamilton Nissan did look after us - owe them a few beers, the current model GU 3L has a different block, the original diagnosis was cracked pistons 3 & 4 - loss of compression/ difficulty starting.

G'day Yakodi
Congrats on your outcome, you are very fortunate to be back on the road for just $1500.
Out of curiousity, what year model is your GU and what mileage did it have on it when the pistons cracked?
Many Thanks
Brad

Built Oct 2002 - 133,000km -
well serviced through Arb & Nissan mainly.
Well travelled - country Km's towing a Jayco camper about 15,000km. Always new oil every 5000km. No excuses really for engine failure- just another dodgy 3L GU.
