It's probably true.
The Rancho compressor is only a low pressure unit and you may blow the system to bits using a regular 4wd compressor.
I also don't think you could buy the in-cab controller separately and piping separately from the compressor anyway.

Yeah, i think Savvas is spot on there. The compressor is very low pressure & the kit comes complete.
I think there'd be the added hassle of finding suitable adapters to reduce the outlet of your compressor down to the size of the piping they use.

It would be easy to add a regulator for the low pressure and the compressor i have is used for air lockers with small tubeing (fittings avalable at the air tool store) so no problems there either.
But as you say they may not seperate the system from the compressor.

You can use any compressor system you like, BUT the pressure and volume of air is the key.
Wait till you see the hoses that are used on it, if you use an air
tank system you will need some form of pressure control to VERY low pressure.
It has been done before, But i just used Ranchos pump as I got the kit second hand for $100 fitted :)
By the way, if you havent got the shocks yet, the 9x's are getting BAD raps, and my 9000's are being replaced under warranty, LOTS of them are being replaced under warranty..
I would go with Konis if I was buying again, infact one bloke in our club, on his 3rd set of Ranchos, not a hack, but a traveller/trip leader, is throwing his away, going with Konis....

Been waiting for you to reply Truckster as i know you have the in-cab system.
Yeah i allready have them and i too have heard bad reports but
mine are ok so far.
I find the plastic dial knobs a bit dodgy though .
Why can't Old Man Emu do a adjustable shock ???

Koni's are a great shock, but an absolute pain in the rear to adjust.
Most people i know don't bother changing them, they're just too damn hard.
It looks like the new 9x adjustable Ranchos are having some teething problems, but the 5x units were excellent. Hopefully by the time i buy my Ranchos they will have sorted these problems out
