Just a question regarding the fitting of a reversing camera to a Nissan Patrol 2003 3.0 litre TD. Has anybody fitted one? If so, which brand and why? I want to fit one but I'm having trouble trying to work out the best option?
To the regulars............... no I haven't searched the archives this time and don't intend to frustrate myself trying again!!!!

I fitted a polarises 2 channel visor version hard wired with H/duty 130 ' camera (as the wireless version i had before was crap) it was the best value for money i could find at the time it fits in & doesn't block any vision & can be left on all the time, a lot can,t but you should be able to find a lot in the old threads

The wireless system is a problem.
I was going to bring them in but the tests on 3 models failed. Interference and poor signals strength + 2 units next to each other would swap images. (Bad news if your neighbour also has one).
My new wired units will be here next week. The old way to go is hard wired. Here is a diagram Picture .
Excuse the little blue car. It should be a tough 4wd.
Regards Derek.

Hi, I purchased a screen and camera from www.reverseasy.com.au If you contact them they can forward 3ltr Patrol install pictures (
well, they did for me anyway). Am very happy with the camera (same as the one top right in Derek's post) and the screen is a small 3.5 inch LCD mounted at the top left of the windscreen.

G,day. I have the best on the market. Polaris.I have the CV-10 mini camera on my nissan patrol, infrared camera on my van with a woza cable to join van and vehicle.
I can help you if really want the best. I don"t think I am allowed to say any more as it would be classed as and advertisement, but I am a Polaris agent.
Steve.

I can attest to Steve's claim. Although I have 2 infrared cameras, one on the Patrol (mounted on the roof rack and pointing down such that I can see the towbar + see about 20 meters behind). The 2nd is on the Ultimate Camper and connected with the Wazza cable.
I did the install myself.....too easy.
I have no financial or other interest in the company.
Cheers

I also have the Polaris system but did not get much joy or assistance from either the 4wd
shop who fitted them or from Polaris, by phone and at the Melb. Caravan show. Consequently i have paid out mega dollars and still need to purchase another camera. I Have the 2 channel flip screen on the which is fine and the large infra red camera in my original purchase but this was fitted inside the back window & while could see O.K. in daylight thro the demister stripes, at night it just reflected on window. Polaris then told me this camera was not meant to be on the truck but was for the back of the van. Their solution was I should buy a mini camera for the Prado & fit it above the number plate angled so I could see the towbar, buy the woza cable & put the big one on back of Van. More $$ outlay more labour costs.
So now the camera on the van is fantastic to see what is following me when towing; the mini camera above the number plate is great for backing up to the van; I can see any kids when I reverse down my sloping driveway but, only if it is daylight - because, after they put the mini camera on they told me it was not Infra red!! I am now totally bleep off with the Polaris phone "help" people and the sellers/fitters as I now need another infrared camera fitted outside so I can see what is behind me at night which was my original aim. I can use the 2nd plug in the back to plug in the truck camera which will probably have to go on a pole or roofrack (more $$) and plug the van one in instead when on the road. Roll on 21st when we head across the Nullarbr. Have to find another camera before then, any ideas?
Cheers Mac

See my comment above.....
I have 2 infrared cameras. The one on the Patrol is OUTSIDE the back window (on the roof rack in fact). I tried it inside the back window, but like you I got a lot of "feedback" off the glass and it wasn't good at all.....so I relocated it and all is good. The other small camera is probably recommended for the vehicle as most have reversing lights to show the scene behind the vehicle. But those standard reversing lights on most vehicles are chit anyway....(I also have 2 large wide angled spot lights on the roof rack pointing backwards so don't have that problem anyway).
Cheers
Roachie

Stephen,
ended up getting ours from a mob called jetview on ebay for $270.00 delivered thats the camera, monitor and all cable, that was the best deal I could find, you can get cheaper but its not as good a system, can recommend dealing with the manufacturer even if they do come from Hong Kong, whatever you decide get a minimum 85 degree angle or better,
regards,
Dave
