Was talking to a mate at Tjm yesterday about new lights and he said to hold off as light force were bringing out HID's in the 170's and to make it more cost viable they are also making the XGT's in the 170 as
well. So if anyone was looking at new lights I.E in a smaller size like me it may pay to wait. He didnt know when just said soon.Any one else heard the same???
regards
ross

I have the 170s and find them very good, the bigger lights would block off to much air to the radiator

but they will still be stupidly expensive.
You can get for $130 delivered off Ebay HID conversion kits for spotties. Buy a cheap set of spotties or used set of Oscars or similar off ebay and you ahve HID's for less than 1/4 price.

Ross, we had 170s on the Jeep and I was extremely underimpressed with them. They are now on the roofrack on the GU, basicly for "look up here and see my URL" value.
The 240 XGTs on the GU are good, but no better than the Hella 4000s that are now on the Jeep (In fact I think that the Hellas are better)
cheers

Personally I cant justify the extra cost for HID lights, if I was driving evey night for a living maybe..
I am more than happy enough with my standard IPF lights, even the rep who sold me the lights claimed HID is a bit over the top.
You get so much glare back off road signs is it really worth it ?
Maybe in a smaller light the glare wouldnt be as bad ?
I get annoyed with some people and their " powerful lights " they are burning your eyes out and they are
miles away !
Its good to see the roos, you dont have to set em on fire !!

I find there is less glare from road signs with HID's , I heard IPF's are selling HID's spotties in Australia soon.

That would be bludy right !!! I just bought new spotties. I emailed lightforce and suggested the XGT would be perfect in a smaller size, but got no reply.

I actually find that the more powerful the spottie the harder it is to adjust your eyes to the relative darkness when you have to dip them. Happy with my Super Oscars

That's exactly the reason I supplemented my Lightforce 240's with a set of XenonOz inserts for the headlights. Now I have the HID's for headlights + the 240 Blitz (with blue covers to make their light appear whiter). When I drop back to low beam for oncoming traffic, I no longer get that feeling of "where the bloody hell am I?" They are very good and I could probably get away without even using the 240's; but they just add a lot more "distance" to what I can see; whereas the HID's just make the area closer to the truck much brighter.

Hella already have a smaller version of the Predator and Rallye 4000's in the compact series. The smaller Predators are about half the price of the originals and claimed light output, range, etc is very similar to the larger ones (inc 4000's). I have 240's and 4000's and would go the 4000's every time. You need to be aware that the output of the XGT's is the same as the 240 Blitz but the XGT sits much further forward of the mounting bolt so if you don't have much room behind the mount hole a lot of lamp is going to be sticking out past the bullbar which listening to some posts on this
forum is illegal in some States. Also be careful with HID headlamp inserts because the ADR's require self levelling and h/lamp cleaning on vehicles so fitted.
